Fan of Fancy Handfans

You may have seen on my Instagram story this gorgeous fan, which consist a fusion of the East and the West (中西合拼). Since it generated quite a little buzz on Instagram among my friends, I thought I should do a full post here to share with you a little more about this beauty.

Don't be too surprised but this fan is totally handmade. In fact all the fans at Fancy Handfans! "Stay Cool, Look Hot!" this is a super dupe apt quote for people living on a sunny island.

The weather in Singapore has been pretty uncooperative lately. So instead of being caught with beads of perspiration around my forehead, I now put a fan in my bag to keep myself cool. It is a lot better than an electronic fan because (i) it is more eco-friendly, (ii) thanks to its chic design, it really looks more like a fashion accessory upping my style of the day and (iii) it provides me some exercise. Hehe.

If you are from the same part of the world as me, fans are pretty common and part of our culture. But sometimes are always very tradition and may not blend in with our modern outlook. Which is partially why I wanted to share with you guys on Fancy Handfans!

We all know what you wear can either make or break a look. But now I know that a good well-designed can give the look the "oopmh". At Fancy Handfans, there are many designs available for each occasion. Psst, even Christina Aguilera wore one of their fans to The Voice USA!

I, myself had a difficult time picking the designs. From quirky, goth, retro, striking, you name it, they pretty much have it all. These are some of the designs that caught my eye. Go click on the link and you can check out the others!

Before anyone condemn this collage as narcissistic selfies, these are actually me imitating some of the flirtatious fan signs. Just so you know, you can actually use your fans to tell your suitors your availability and your level of passion towards them. Hehe.

Here's where I got my inspiration from, try them out yourself! If you going to take photos like me, tag Fancy Handfans when posting them on Instagram. I only tried 4, but there are a whole list of language! Let me know if you can guess what I am doing :D

And just to make it more interesting, if you can successfully guess my actions, I will be giving away a fan to a lucky reader who got 4 signs right! I did try to choose a fan which was more classy and mainstream so that it will appeal to most of you :D

Have fun! Will try to close the giveaway before 2018 so that you can keep cool in the hot 2018! :D By the way, I will be using my fan for a photoshoot soon, so do keep a lookout for it!

LOTD: It's Party Time!

I am sure by now most of you know by now one of theme in which ForFunk is yakking non-stop about is culturally neutral fashion. Basically, it just means you get to try out different type of looks even if it is or may be normally associated with a particular race, class or nationality.

Today, I will be wearing the hanbok. It is not exactly fashion inspired. It is a very beautiful costume and is a piece in which you could wear for special occasions such as D&D, parties and even as maternity dress. Hehe.

So Jiang jiang, that's me in my hanbok. If you are wondering why my hair isn't tied up, that's because I look like an ajumma when I wear it in my ponytail. When my hair was long and curly, I could twirl it and wrap it around my head like a court lady. Will update another photo of me in it when my hair is longer, ok. (Totally worthy of any best-dressed award!) Hehe.

Pardon my messy hair and even messier ribbon. I did my best to give myself a gigantic fancy tie. (Just in case you want to tie it like me, I decided on the length of the ribbon first and double-tied it so that it was proportional.)

Apart from the ribbon, the Hanbok is really easy to wear. The inner pink spaghetti dress is airy and good for Singapore or even Korea's Summer weather. Also, it comes with velcro and is stretchy. With the petticoat on the outside, you don't really have to worry about being too fat or skinny for the costume haha. The turquoise petticoat with a clip on button to secure it. It is a fantastic simplified version for any of you who are eager to dress up fast.

Just in case you are wondering, the costumes in this post are all from partybasket. And they have an amazing collection of hanbok at an incredibly affordable price too. (<S$40) Personally, pairing up the contrasting colours looks nicer for Hanbok. But if you really want to use it as a maternity dress, then you may consider something duller. :P

I guess from the photos, it is kinda of obvious what is the second costume. Yesh, I am the pretty (maybe a little slutty) Santarina from Finland. Guess Christmas just came early! If you are looking for a costume that you can wear again and again, I guess this is it. After all, Christmas is a yearly affair just like birthdays.

Okay in comparison to the hanbok, I think the material is not as good. It is nice and furry, reminding me of suede. But I think it traps the fur balls from the hat. But if you are looking for something that won't last forever and hog your wardrobe, this is the piece! And I like the fact it can be quite versatile if you pair it with a jacket etc.

Usually, I don't really edit my pics. But I just couldn't resist editing this collage cos it is so festive (when in a set). Check out my Santa's beard. Guess, I am not that good with strings and knots. Was totally struggling to "corset" up myself. After much tries, I decided it look better loose than tight hehe. I also note that I don't look as good as the models in the photo. *Sobs*

But still I think I look fantabulous in both costumes. Ending the post with a photo I think is funny (Me in my face roller). I thought it look a bit like a "Korean" me doing plastic surgery. I am not sure even how I made my face that round and over-sized. Gah.

For any of you who are keen to get yourself the costumes I tried or other costumes i.e. superheroes, movie characters, I think you may want to consider partybasket. (Especially if you don't like renting or sharing, the costumes at partybasket is very affordable and of decent quality.) Most of the costumes are in stock. However, if you are buying in bulk, do order early before your 'big day' lest they go out of stock.

Guess what, you can even find something for the little ones too. Guess you can twin around with them. And do check out their Princess collection. I am starting to think it might be quite a good idea to do a Princess photoshoot. Oh yea we do have something big coming up. So keep your eyes peel to the blog!

Random n Fandom: 2016 is Magical!

Ravenclaw
So this new year was cool. I got invited to Hogwarts, like finally...some witchy magic. Without the bravest and kindest heart, I was placed into Ravenclaw by The Sorting Hat. Well, I always knew I was more of a brain more than anything. Always happy to know I am not evil *winks*
Just went to get my uniform off Random n Fandom and my handy wand at Ollivanders. Mine illuminated red, guess it probably is trying to show the world my hot red-blood passion for knowledge. :)
Cho Chang
And as I was at Ollivanders, some witches and wizards asked if I was by any chance related to Cho Chang since we bear some resemblance. (Maybe cos all Asians look the same?) I had an obviously sharper face and my fringe, I have fringe!!! But maybe people thought she changed her hairstyle.
Jut to make things clear, I am NOT her. Neither am I related to her. I probably had a good chance starring in Harry Potter (Re-make) if I audition for the film. But I don't really want to kiss Harry Potter unless they make him Asian to and look like my BF. Hehe.
Cho Chang
Too bad phones didn't exist during their time, cos I bet that's what all the students at Hogwarts would do. Just selfie around all day with their wands, casting spells to make themselves look more gorgeous in the photos. Yeah, that's probably called filter. Hahaha.
Mum thinks I look too mischievous to be Cho Chang cos she always looked so prim and proper. She is a real great example for Asian witches. So, when school starts, I will be dressed in a white blouse and not a white singlet, so that my tie can fit snuggly.
L.V.
I even prepared my fearful look in case Lord Voldemort revive. Somehow, I think I have a higher chance of catching someone holding a L.V. bag than him. It is ironical how in the wizard world, some tremble at the initials L.V. While in the muggle world, everyone hankers to own a piece of him.
Life is weird in so many ways. Perhaps we should start Muggle Studies earlier? Decided not to waste my braincells wondering about such mindless fears and decided to continue practicing my spells before school starts like what a Kiasu Singaporean would do...
Stardust
Can't wait for school. See you all at platform 9 and a 3/4 tomorrow. Hope all you wizards and witches wannabe got your robes from Random n Fandom already. And for seniors who have grown taller. You may need a new comfortable one from Random n Fandom too.
Random n Fandom have been stocking some stuff Muggles are crazy about as well. Not sure if their fan tees would be useful for Muggle Studies, should the Kiasu stock up first? Saw Pokemon, The Big Bang Theory and Sherlocks etc. Shall stop rambling and go off to bed lest Hogwarts Express leave without me!
