Such a Steal: Plaited Petal Bamboo Sheets

I took quite an effort to choose a good mattress (Sealy by the way) for myself. Apart from the bed, I realise that the material of the bedsheets are rather important too! I thought there was some merits in dedicating a post on this since many of you may fall in the same trap of buying the cheapest available beddings thinking that it doesn't matter anyway!

But you know what, it does matter. Because if you are going to pay the electric bills yourself like me, you probably would be trying to avoid turning on the air-con too much. So cooling sheets actually will help you save a bit of money.

1. Cotton - Frankly, we bought this cos it was the cheapest and the most durable. But I absolutely hate the months when it is time for cotton sheets. Cos it traps so much heat. During warm afternoons, I will wake up moist and somewhat sticky even when the fan is on. I basically turn on the air-con every single time.

2. Tencel - Initially, we got this cos we were curious about the material. It was expensive and was a lot more difficult to maintain. Compared to the cotton sheets, it was less durable but it was so much smoother. But, it was so...so...cooling. And this was when I thought...Do I even care if it last only for 2 years, if I enjoy every moments cuddled within it?!?

But I thought...it would be awesome if I could find a material in the middle of these 2...and voila I found Bamboo.

3. Bamboo - The best of both worlds. The price-point is mid-range and it had a nice silky texture, letting you feel breezy in bed. Compared to Tencel, it had a lot less instructions for washing. My only grouse is that the sheet can get a bit crumply. But still that isn't much of a deal-breaker for me.

Pss...between me and you, I found an online store - Pleated Petals that have an amazing selection of bamboo material beddings! The colour selection is quite decent and it comes with a customisable option. My mattress is kinda of thick but still the tailor managed to make some slight altering such that it fits :D As part of their new serivce, you can also request for iron-ons patches to customise your pillows, which I thought was quite a nice finishing frill. Strong recommend this local brand for any of you who are interested in getting similar beddings! I am now kinda of busy with the home design/ improvements but happy to share with you guys more tips and tricks, so keep reading, ok!

Her Love of my life

I think...I might really be obsessed with earrings. My latest posts are on all sorts of earring variations. I need to find a way to store them all...Helpz!

This piece is so frigging engaging. It is an absolute conversation starter. The day I wore it, I was like asking people to guess the princess. After much surveying on my side, I realise Rapunzel isn't a very popular princess. Foolish men like my hubs, bro and other males who cannot be named here told me she is Snow White?!? Like how does Disney Snow White even look like this!

This pretty princess has long flowy hair, literally. The next most popular guess was Elsa...cos I guess she is the princess of the century. Definitely my love <3 from Her Love (pun intended) Hehe.

Initially, I was a little disappointed by this set because it wasn't as I envisioned. But Nora quickly redeemed herself because she was a true gem. Even though she was less than $8, she showed charm and class. The design is very unique, not a full circle. It can a bit difficult to wear if you have a thick earlobe. Was feeling very fortunate about my bony ears :D

The pearl is not a smooth oval. But imperfect pearls are trending at the moment, so I am glad to add this to my collection. The price of this piece is also very attractive. For the quality, there is no way any other shop in town is selling pearl pieces at this price! *Thumbs up must buy!*

3. Everly ($7.90)

I got this thinking that it came in a pair. Actually it was only one side. I have to admit this piece does have a lot of character. I have no idea how it made me look so cool, and "wu-seh" (charismatic) with this man. My only grouse is that this piece is a little fragile.

Apart from that, I adore the geometric design. A bit of imbalance on the ears which I am not very used to for now, but I am sure I will soon grow comfortable with me new swag. It is amazing how a different earring can bring a different part of us out! :D

Check out the cool packaging. The earrings from Herlove.co even come with a jute pouch if you opt for the eco friendly packaging. Psst, there is a white variety of colour you can pick from (i.e. white, grey, drak grey, navy, red and brown). I don't know about you but I might just buy the earrings for the pouches cos it is so pretty and of very decent quality!

To make your day even sweeter, quote "ForFunk" and you will get to enjoy 5% off for every 2 sets of earrings purchased. Mind you, this don't last forever, so you better make your move now. :P

Mall Talk: Queue! Eat! Explore!

Finally, I pulled myself out of bed and ventured outside for a good ole date with the Hubz. We decided to pop by the newly revamped Funan Mall cos of the hype. I am pretty much in awe by the whole mall because there seems to be so much going on. There were a lot of lights, people and much to see.

However, it does feel like everything is all over the place (not in a sense like a maze). Definitely worth the hype to at least explore it at least once cos it does seems avant garde and kept me rather entertained for a good half day :D And I thought, why not bring back Mall Talk!

1. Queue

One true real hit for me were the drinks and desserts selection there. And all the shops came with sigh...a queue. The PPP Coffee smells super aromatic. But because I really can't take strong coffee/tea in the afternoon, I had to give it a miss. Nayuki (my fav!) had an outlet there as well. But there was no way I was going to queue for it given that you can pretty walk it and get what you want at the Vivo outlet.

We ended up queuing for Milksha and I really enjoyed the yam chunks in my drink. Nasty Cookie also set up a store in Funan Mall. There was quite a bit of satisfaction watching the staff pump in the sinful cream and chocolate. Didn't get one in the end, because I like to think I am health conscious. Haha.

2. Eat

There is quite a good selection of food and at a pretty affordable price-point. Unfortunately, I wasn't entirely prepared so I didn't go there with an empty stomach (totally regretted that) since it was a last minute venturing decision :P But, I did a see a few joints which I would totally be trying out in future. So keep a look out for these future posts!

With my limited tummy space, we decided to settle on Tsuta Japanese Soba Noodles cos it is an one-star Michelin store and there are no other joints in Singapore. To be very very honest, i am not much of a fan of this authentic Jap taste. >_< I guess there is no harm in giving it one try, but you definitely won't be seeing me stepping in for a second time.

3. Explore

As mentioned earlier, there's quite a bit to see. So wear comfy shoes. I walked so much, my calves hurt! For me, interesting shops include Iuiga, the rooftop garden, Think (where you can check out cute stationary while queuing for Milksha), Kiap Kiap (I enjoy spectating as people catch their prizes) and Xiaomi.

Dyson Beauty Lab was pretty intimidating. There was like no one even in the store, so I didn't even really dare to step in to play with their stuff. If you are a fan of mobile gaming, you can sit around to watch teams compete with one another. But honestly, I thought it was extremely underwhelming as compared to computer gamers, really not my thing. Legs were really tired, so that was basically the end of my journey! :P

Klay & Play: A tale of 2 earrings

Clay earrings are raging...and if you are planning to add a piece to your collection, I would really recommend Klay & Play. Their pieces are truly intricate and so detailed, it is worth every penny.

Initially, I wanted to feature 2 of the earrings in the post. But my tassel one went kaput. The fortunate thing was I managed to wear it twice - for tea with my friends (but I didn't take any photos) and for the Private Chef's Table Experience. If you zoom in you can see me donning it rather proudly. :D

Honestly, I was quite bummed 2 of my tassels loosened cos the set was my favourate between the 2. I presume it was some latent defect. The owner sent me a spare tassel, but I am at quite a loss as to how to salvage it. I might do some handicraft and make my own tassels I reckon, but it definitely won't look as good as before. My only comfort was I have still the circle piece. :D

Comparatively, this design is a bit more old-skool and retro. But there is a still a charm to it. I have to admit that the earrings at Klay & Play bring up the chic factor immediately to any outfit. Even my girls (who are so darn stingy with their compliments) gave approving nods to Klay & Play. And for the first time, I got my ears (although they seem to be more interested in my earrings) inspected by my friends...:X

Private Chef's Table Experience

Was on a lucky roll lately, cos I won invites to Private Chef's Table and was hosted by one of Singapore's best home chef - Jo Ann. Private cooking has been quite the rage lately so I was quite excited to hear that Jo Ann was whipping for us a 3-course Japanese fusion meal.

It cost about $100 per pax (that's before all the card discounts) and comes with wine pairing. Plus, the ambience was pretty good and you get to observe her cooking, lol. I was a bit shy and didn't know we were allowed to go up close to take photos (you can by the way.)

Not to be harsh, I think Jo Ann's cooking is not on par of the restaurant's standards (maybe cos she is not used to the kitchen) but she is definitely a good cook. I think the menu was more of Chinese food than Jap fusion (cos Jap food makes me think of sushi, udon etc. which don't seem to be part of the menu) I think the freshness and quality of the food were not the best...but the food portion was definitely very generous and the the alcohol was very impressive. Even the hubs who is not much of a drinker drank at least 2 sips!

I wanted to finish every cup of alcohol but I think I might have to be carried home. Haha. Just to share a bit on the menu, so that you guys can have a flavour of what to expect.

Starter
  • Seasonal Vegetable Salad - Nothing surprising about this dish but is definitely of restaurant standards
  • Aburi Mentaiko Crab Cakes - I thought this was really good and she used real crab meat...wow
  • Paired with Monkey 47 Gin and Tonic - This drink blew my mind, in particular the froth made of eggwhite. It tasted more like a nice fizzy drink than the alcohol

Main
  • Fish with Hebehiam (surprise dish) - Super generous but I thought the chilli was not spicy enough for me and the fish was not the freshest. But hubs, who doesn't like fishes finished the whole fish!
  • Baked Shrimp Laksagne - The hub's fav. It was very well done with a surprise element.
  • Paired with Chivas 12 Sensho Pepper Highball - Yum yum, this time I managed to protect this refreshing drink from the waitress!
  • Fiery Baked Baby Chicken - A very simple dish that I am glad Jo Ann generously shared the recipe with us. Now, we can try ourselves at home.
  • Paired with Jacob's Creek Reserve Chardonnay - First wine of the day, but I am kinda of hooked on the 2 previous cocktails, so I wasn't as impressed though it was good.

Dessert
  • Pulut Hitam Matcha Dirt Cake - This is super good, even better than those in the restuarnats. The pulut hitam gave the dirt cake so much more texture.
  • Paired with Monkey 47 Sloe Gin - Shots is really not my thing, so this is the only drink that I didn't like from the menu.

Croon: Angel Puffs that save skin

This is a really special package I am endorsing today. I finally got about to using my Croon Puffs. We were actually excited to try it out because this product made cleansing so simple and fuss-free. It is really quite amazing because this product doesn't require you to use any other soaps or chemical to see the effect.

You may not know, but for the longest time I was having quite bad break-out :( It was acne eruptions after pimple attacks. I am not sure whether was it stress, diet or just pure bad luck. So, I stopped washing my face for a while (eww...right!)

To be frank with you guys, this post was supposed to a "his-hers" lovey-dovey concept. But the hubs went ahead to use his puff first because I was moping around too much at my failure to control my skin condition. It was a good thing he started first because his clearer skin and his comments about the soft puff was what made me risk it all with my face.

And I am proud to announce after using Croon Puffs for 2-3 days, my face showed significant improvement. Apart from the initial difficulty of finding a place to hang them for drying, I love how easy it is to use them. Just wash your face using a circular motion! The daily cleansing angel puff is extremely soft and gentle for the skin.

Here's a video that can better show you guys how to use the puffs. The exfoliator puffs are a bit rougher and is meant to be used once a week. When you rub it against your skin, it feels like a nice massage...hehe. And if you noticed closely, the design of the exfoliator angel puffs do not have stripes design. If you don't like the colours I picked, there are other vibrant colours available too.

Was doing some quick mental sums and I reckon as long as the puffs can last 1-2 months, it is easily a more affordable option compared to the pricer facial foam. But compared to the drugstore facial foam, the angel puffs might slightly be more painful on the pockets. However, if your skin is sensitive, the puffs may be a better option as you can slowly wean your skin off its reliance on chemical products. Now that I am more confident with my skin, here's some close-ups of me with my savior puffs :D

Strongly recommend this product, I am so happy my skin looks good again :D

KURIOS: Cirque du Soleil

You didn't hear it wrong! Your gal went to the premiere of KURIOS and is here to tell you every juicy bit of it (without trying to spoil your show.) Unbelievable as it may sound, this is actually my first time at a professional circus. My previous experiences were at the cruises and I thought I basically have seen it all.

But I guess I was very wrong because the Cirque du Soleil just blew my mind away. Whatever I never imagined was shown before my every eyes. And whatever I imagined (but thought was not possible) was made possible on stage. I was just absolutely mind-blown.

The photos alone doesn't show much of the experience. I was clapping, cheering and in anticipation, fascination and trepidation as the crew did their acts! I was in quite an adrenaline rush that I was completely exhausted by the end of the show. This is what happens when you are a very engaged audience. Lol!

Quite honestly, my seats weren't the best. I thought it would affect the experience but nope, the troupe would still engage the side-liners. I am pleased to say I still had a pretty darn good time. But I would really suggest buying the best seats (and VIP experience) if you really want to have a chance to be part of the act (psss, the troupe would go down the stage and have audience contact who sit in the centre!) or want to have exclusive backstage passes!

If you want to surprise element, I would suggest not to wiki the show or even watch some of the snippets I filmed. Do note that outside food and drinks are not permitted, so you can either stuff yourself before you attend the show or be prepared to pay prices (around double to triple) for the snacks and drinks.

The souvenirs on the other hand was very reasonably price and of really good quality. I was very very tempted to shop to buy the steampunk-themed merchandise. The charms accessories and bags in particular are very, very tempting! So be prepared to have some spare cash at hand if you intend to bring home a part of the circus.

This is probably a part of the premiere perks. But I saw so many stars - Elvin Ng, Cynthia Koh, Jacelyn Tay, Dick Lee, Qi Yu Wu and Joanne Peh. Woa...I have to say Jacelyn and Qi Yu Wu look exceptionally good up close. I think I sort of bedazzled Qi Yu Wu a bit with my funky dinosaurs on my ears...*gives myself a pet on the back for dressing well!

I am really glad to be part of the Kurios for a day and I can't wait for the Cirque next act already. It is definitely very worth your time and money. I showed so much appreciation for them I went home with painful hands from all the clapping. Guess I was "The Greatest Audience" for the night! Hehe. Thank you Kurios and Sliding Doors Entertainment for having me!

Loopy Fruppy - An ear for an ear

The hubs felt that the Harley Quinn in me was raging, which isn't exactly a false statement, given that I am starting to love wacky stuff that may lean a little on the OMG side. To all the queers out there, I need to share with you my latest fav - Loopy Fruppy.

The handmade earrings in the shop are flashy, over-the-top and absolutely out of this world. My personal favourites are the Dinosaurs and animals series. Oh yea, and the gummy lego man. Pss...don't say I never warn you, they sell out really fast!

Pastel Pom Bubble ($9.90)

To grow some ball (oops this sound pretty racy...oops), check out the Pom Bubbles. It is cheerful and a truly happy piece. But you know what, don't be greedy like me and ask to customise for smaller bubbles. Because these things are really (am not kidding here) heavy on the ears.

Much as they are so incredibly adorable, I can't wear it the whole day. Oh yea, when you are bored, hook them off your ears and you can even juggle them :P This piece is a great conversation starter and perfect for self-entertainment!

Light Pink and Hot Pink Heart Chain - $6.90

This was actually a wrong delivery. As you can see, it looks a lot more "normal" than the other stuff I chose. But I decided to keep it because this was "loudly subdued" and it is quite a good piece for days where you have a statement to make but don't really wanna proclaim. You kinda of want people to probe it out of you sort of mood.

Hearts can never go wrong. As compared to the rest of the collection, this piece is a lot lighter on the ears. When you bounce about, the hearts would fly everywhere. If you want some love for the day, this piece speaks it all.

Dino ($9.90)

I definitely saved the best for last. These dinosaurs are my ride or die. I am totally wearing it for the Circus Premiere, so stay tune for that. It is fun and adorable. Although they are quite heavy too, but I can definitely live with them. Lots of different types of dino available for customisation, but I am the harmless herbivore. Hehehe.

Loopy Fruppy have a lot more mind-blowing designs, so do check them out. And yes, they absolutely resonate with my alternative style - wacky. So don't be surprise to see me showcasing more of their work. If any piece catch your eye but is sold, you can actually get them to make a similar piece so don't be too sad kay! Going to play with my earrings, bye!
