The Happy Moo - Yummy Beef Jerkies

It has been a long time since I last tried beef jerkies. It is more of an ang-moh snack and we barely see any on our sunny shores. My impression of beef jerkies is that they are tough and are almost as difficult to bit through as nougats. I always wondered why people even love them. I reckon it must be because they are healthy snacks!

I had the opportunity to try the herd - Lemon Ponzu, Mala and Truffle ($45) from The Happy Moo. To be honest, I was really impressed with the taste. They were easy to bite through and being rather Asian, I thought they would go really well in my plain porridge. The one that blew me away totally was the Truffle (which can be bought on standalone basis at $17).

I figured I must have been exposed to badly made jerkies in my younger days or this has been marinated to suit our Asian taste buds. Out of curiosity, I researched a little more on these tasty snacks. So beef jerkies are basically dehydrated beef which are marinated. (The Happy Moo version probably taste more superior because they are slow-cooked).

Online forums had some interesting questions on why beef jerkies were seemingly more expensive. (LOL!) Beef itself is generally one of the more expensive meats and a good cut would definitely cost more. I would have to say given the "stay-home-days, I have been plumping up quite a bit and guilt-free snacks (no fat, no carbs, no MSG) are definitely items that should go into my home pantry :P

I have Scoliosis

The title says it all. The doctors have confirmed I have Scoliosis. Well, luckily I am a mild case so I don't have to go for an operation or need to wear a back brace. As my doctor puts it, "just continue living your happy life!"

It is a permanent issues, but at least it is not life threatening in anyway. I just have to live with bad posture and not be able to be a model (not that I was in the first place) for the rest of my life.

  1. Medically, the causes of Scoliosis are unknown. I may or may not have an offspring with the same issue as me. But one thing for sure, if you are born with it, you live with it.

  2. In Singapore, during our growth spurts, most of us will be tested for it. So, if you are a severe case, you would definitely go through remedial surgery or back braces. Mild cases like me, you may or may not be informed of your condition. (It does make you sad to know you are sick.)

  3. Just in case you are wondering, I have very bad posture. And I have backaches easily too. I always thought the aches was due to my bad posture. And the bad posture was due to the laziness of my spine - never knew it was an inherent problem of my spine. My parents/ relative would always scold me and ask me to sit straight. But honestly, I always feel better slouched and now we all know why. HAHAHA.

  4. And truly, this is by no way end of the world. I can do sports (I can't touch my toes not sure is it because of my back.) and I excel in some sports too. I have poor balance though haha. The saddest thing is I probably shouldn't take epidural when I am pregnant. But I have high pain tolerance :P

  5. I also asked my doctor about Chiropractic Treatment. Just to share, this is not regulated in Singapore, so best to avoid it.

  6. By the way, I am already past my growth spurt, so as my Doctor says, my condition will not deteriorate. The only reason why my back grows weaker will be due to natural old age.

Just so you know, all of us have own set of health issues. Even me. But what is important is to continue on living, making the best of life. After all you even live once. By the way, even Martha Hunt, Victoria Secret's angel has Scoliosis too.

Guess my doctor put it best, at least it is Scoliosis. There are other worse illnesses out there. You didn't get the best lot. But this lot still allows you to live a normal life and chase your dreams. #Feelingpumped I really don't live forever, so shall make my every breathe a cheerful one.

The start to a healthier me!

Being fat is such a torturous feeling cos it makes me feel unhealthy. It is an impending gloom like I am on a downward slide to "Fatville". Even my BFF was telling me, it is so easy to eat but so hard to slim down. Seems like only I am expanding among my friends. :(
The truth is the art to maintaining is to eat right and having self-restraint when it comes to dessert and delicious delicacy. Check out my breakfast to celebrate my new-found freedom.
Morning Breakfast
Some of you budding health freaks may have heard of Super Life Co. It is an online store that sells premium organic food. Embarking on this journey has it perks, I personally have a distant aunt who is wrinkle-less at age 70. And she feast on superfood. I hope to be like her. But with that slice of lemon cake, I just probably earned another ring on my tummy. :(
My general feeling of the superfood is they are freaking healthy. I know they are because it is sugarless and is in purest raw form. Although I do sound like a whiny brat, I actually hope to convert myself into a healthier me. The first step is indeed hard.
Superlife Co.
These are the samples I tried. For amateurs, my comments would probably come in handy. For the hardcore healthy people, please spare me the criticisms :P
1. Chia Seeds - Possibly my favourite. This goes with anything. Placed a few in agar agar. I porbably just cancelled out the healthy points I earned. If you guys have an infuser, this goes really well with the tasty water. Chia seeds contain high anti-oxidants and so they are a beauty must-consume. Many women have claimed them to be the seeds of everlasting youth. They are pretty much tasteless. So this is quite easy to become a routine.
2. Cacao Powder - Sigh. For those who expect this to taste like 3-in-1 hot cocoa or milo, I will have to disappoint you. It is pretty much like melted dark chocolate. If you are like my Mum a fan of the bitter chocolate, you would like this in its natural state. What I really like is that you could customise it to suit your taste. I added soya milk which still didn't make it sweet (I have an awfully diabetic tongue). That's why I paired it with the cake. :P
Maca3. Maca Powder - And this is not matcha. For those who are unfamiliar and curious about this product, it actually taste like grounded nuts. It is very strong in its flavour and you are not supposed to mix it with hot water as that would kill its nutrient. 1 spoonful a day is good enough to give you the supposed energy rush. For me, this is the hardest to consume as the taste is so distinct and difficult to mask.
For those who are interested, Super Life Co are having huge discounts on their chia seeds and mixed quinoa. These 2 products are highly raved online. I have not tried mixed quinoa before so I can't really comment much but Chia seeds generally are quite easy on the tongue and tummy but not so on the pocket. So this discount really come in quite handy.
Fat Hot
Ending off with a fat joke the BF shared with me. I think this is a direct hit hinting I needa get in shape. Since I am relatively chubby, guess I have the prerogative to tell fat jokes and not be stoned. Don't get me wrong, tubby and frumpy is never a sin. But to lose self-control is downward slip to an abyss.
I shall start exercising my neck. Turn left and right when people offer me food!!! *Mentally Chant* will be toned. I will try to keep fit. I will exercise when I am free.I will not be lazy, neither will I be conscientious. I will not not roll. I will not be dethroned as the Queen of naps.
My lack of willpower will be the death of me. Sigh. Stay tune to watch me slim down. *always hopeful for miracles*

Cheers with Fruity Lite Extra to a healthy life

Usually what is good for you usually taste pretty bad. Today, I thought I would like to share with you a product which helps you achieve a healthier digestive system by clearing the excess oil and toxins and at the same time is a very delicious beverage.
Fruity Lite
I am pretty sure some of you have probably seen this at your nearest supermarket or our leading drugstores - Guardian and Fairprice. Perhaps you are also curious about it like me. I was sponsored 6 boxes (which is about a 1 month supply to try out). There are types available the Fruity Lite tea and Fruity Lite extra which is sugar free and contains additional Vitamin C and Xylitol.
First of all, this is not a slimming tea.The picture of the measuring tape on the box may seem a little bit misleading though. Eventually, you might or might not lose any weight. And if you do end up lighter, it is because of better bowel movements. :)
The drink itself, I have to say is very very delicious. I am on it for more than a month now. I am actually quite hooked onto it cos it is a tasty thirst quencher when it is cold with ice. Every time, I sort of overeat or take something more oily, I would immediately make myself a cup of Huiji Fruity Lite. It helps me pass out gas, Haha *embarrassed* It doesn't have any artificial colouring or flavouring, all natural goodness!
How to Make
So usually, I make a big pot of it. Add in a lot of water and stir it with my handy chopstick. Chill it and soon it will be ready to serve. I would think it taste like a cold ice lemon tea! My family now even prepares it when there are guests in the house. :P
It is reasonably priced at S$7.90 for a box of 10 sachets, which is like only 80 cents for a sachet! My BF who had some constipation problem was pretty adversed to it cos of the picture of the lady in the box and he kept telling me he doesn't want to take slimming stuff...But eventually he did try it and now he has a happy tummy. No longer full of shit :P (No pun intended)
Huiji
I have also attached the ingredient list for those who wants to know more. I would think that the main selling point is that it is tasty and is definitely more healthy than the soft drinks we tend to consume on a warm day. My take is that it has become the healthier option for me.
I haven't lose any weight for those who are curious. This is because I generally don't exercise much, especially with the haze. However, I have not gained any weight either. I have now cut down on my soft drink intake using Huiji Fruity Lite as the replacement. You can be like me too. I have linked their website in this post so you can read more about it and understand their products better. :)
Cheers to a healthier you!
