Food Tour Part 10: Japanese Food at Town Area

I am going to do more food posts because I have so many photos in my phone that it is in a stage of "ridiculousness" (if there is even such a word) Hehe. This is a whole series on Jap food/ ramen. Guess I got a craving for it ... Hehe.

We came here specially for the Special Fromage (Cheese) Ramen because I was telling the BF about the instant cheese ramen and offered to cook for him. Guess he doesn't like my cooking cos he whizzed me off for this cheese ramen which is interestingly good. But, I don't think it is something I will always have a craving for.

Actually it is hard to go wrong with ramen but my all time favourite is still Orchid Hotel and its branch at 100AM.

I love my raw salmons so I think I have quite a discerning tongue. And this is great with generous portion of salmon. Yum. I heard their other raw fish are great and very fresh. But, hehe, I picked salmon over them all.

They all feel like the fatty, belly part. Would highly recommend this place if you love sashimi bowls. The price is considerably affordable as it is a set meal. But the portion makes it feel like an ala-carte *drools as typing*

I decided to remain consistent and name it the same thing haha. Honestly, I dono whether they change, but their ramen taste exceptionally good the day I went. The BF felt the queue at my favourite Orchid Hotel's ramen store was too long so we settled for this. But it didn't feel like settling for second best.

Broth wise, it is fantastic but still doesn't beat the ramen at Orchid Hotel. But ingredient wise, I love the drumstick. I think I just prefer chicken over pork. Was wondering if I should do some research and give you the full name of the shop. Neh, for self-interest in keeping the queue short, you shall need to do some work yourself. :)

More food post coming up~~~in case you are not into Jap food.

Food Tour Part 5: Orchard Theme

I am so sociable last 2 months that (1) I am eating out a lot and (2) I am trying out a lot of new places. Cos it seems that my friends have more of a life than me. Hahaha. But on the bright side, now you guys have a review and will better choices. Get a bang from your bucks. (Is that how it is even supposed to be like?)

This is going to be a post where you read and wonder, this woman has issues. She keeps up with her friends annually?!? Hey, hey, hey that's because they are not in town and busy with life ok. I do meet my friends rather frequently except for these few. :P

Was at Orchard to support my friend's flea at Shine Festival (Dang the stuff sold there are really quite expensive.) OMG, Shine was super awesome this year, simply because I took home so much cute and good freebies - a "dogtag" of decent quality, a miniature kueh, had free drinks every 100m and the free pens were good. (I mean rarely come across free pens where the ink flows so well.) Sorry for the side-track.

Back to food :P This is actually the second time I am at Nantsuttei . But because I didn't take any photos there the last time, I didn't really review about it. Now that I have a photo at hand (Don't even need editing), let's talk about how yummy it is. I think if you have a good broth, it is kinda of difficult for the ramen to go wrong.

Situated at Orchard Central, I think it is quite convenient for many. It is also cheaper than the last ramen I reviewed and taste quite close to my favourite ramen. (The price is similar too!) Take the pork stock one cos the miso one isn't as nice! Enjoy!

To celebrate one of my friend's birthday, and another for winning an award and being back in town. We went for "Hype Sushi". Honestly, I really do not get the hype over this. I don't think it is really worth the queue for its quality and price. Apart for the cho cho train that delivers your food, it kinda of got stale after a while.

I did try some of their weird food. Apart from the lime float, the rest were just disappointing. I even got scolded by my friends for offering food. "Nobody wants to eat the food you don't like and messed up with your chopsticks!" Thanks B. Thanks. I really feel your love. LOL!

I really wanted to share with you guys my friend's cute little baby. Well but after second thoughts, there are so many pedophiles out there. God knows if someone might go download his photo and do naughty things with it. Guess we shall now mix kids with food. So this is what my friend and I had. It has been like a year since we met up (Guess motherhood overwhelmed her.)

Because both of us were so out of touch with the social life out there, we decided to try this "new place". Sorry if it isn't as new. :P We thought the food was reasonably priced, actually is cheap, and of decent quality. Good for students. Do try out their set meal if you are looking for affordable western food!

Dessert posts coming right up soon! Stay tune!

Just Chillin' at Birders

A little bit of Sake. A little bit of Yakitori. Just some Japan magic to end off the weekend. If you are looking for something different for your next drinking spree, you might just want to read on.

Check out Birders! (I shall not type out the Chinese name for it cos it is kinda of crude...haha) It opens till midnight so if you crave for some fulfilling supper, here is where you should go!

So some of you may not be familiar with Yakitori, in SG terms it is a bit like the Japanese Satay. Basically, it is meat on a skewers. But of course you don't restrict it to meat. Even sweet corn can be skewered too! Personally, I find Yakitori really good bear food. It is one of those rare cases where a flavorful snack complements a zesty drink!

I tried out some of the Yakitori and honestly not all suited my taste. Lol. For any of you who are more adventurous, I shall suggest the Heart and Gizzard. I think it is an acquired taste. Haha. We missed out trying the Pork Belly and Quail Eggs which I am sure it is good. T.T Let me know if you tried them.

Check out our happy face. Here are some which we tried which you might like to have a go at too:-
  1. Unami Corn
  2. Onsen Egg
  3. Japanese Yam - This is quite different from those that we normally have.
Oh dear looking back, I realise that there are a lot more things I would like to try on the menu. But haha, my tummy ain't that big too store all the food anyway.

If you are like my parents who need rice in order to have a filling stomach, don't worry cos they have fillers. For something more traditional, try Yakitori Don. This is really value for money cos not only you get
to try the Yakitori and have rice to go with it.

But, I would really recommend you to try the Takikomi Chazuko which is something like a dashi broth. It is more interesting and broth is really yummy. My brother and I actually drank the whole broth. Oops Hahaha.

If you are looking for some drinks (more like alcohol) to quench your thirst, Birders has a good selection of Sake. Don't worry if you can't name what you want because the friendly waiters there will help you. You just have to describe what you like. Sweet? Strong after taste?

Don't worry if among your group of friends, you are not much of a drinker. There are alcoholic drinks being served as well though I think the alcoholic menu is very very impressive. One thing I really like about Birders is that you can actually have a good chat with your friends without screaming over a singing band. I would describe Birders as a pretty chillax hangout. Not too noisy and rowdy.

I have obviously save the best for last. And these 2 sharing dishes are your Die Die Must Have. If you are there, you must try the Liver Mousse. It is just so damn good. The buns are fried to such crispness, it should be sold by itself so that you can tabao home. And the mousse, I have never taste anything like that. I would even come back for it.

Wings - Duh, everybody love chicken wings. Okay, if you really want me to compare Liver Mousse beats everything. And on normal day, I don't even eat liver. You can imagine how good it is!!! Awesome goodness that you eat it yourself if you are sharing. Haha, can't imagine I am saying this.

And if some Japanese magic and liver moouse isn't enough, keep your eyes peeled. You may just be enough to be star-struck. Yes, the owner is Adam Chen from Tanglin! <3 <3 <3 I can imagine every lady reader flocking there already. Hahaha!
