Food Tour 68: Yummy Food at City Gate Mall

Recently, we were around City Gate area and decided to pop into the mall. It was such a nice surprise for us because I didn't even know there was this mall. And there was quite a nice variety of food that was not seen in other areas before there. 

1. Palapa 

Palama was such a happy find. It serves authentic Indonesian food. The portion was generous and delicious and the price was very affordable. There were even set meals for the kids, which consisted of fried fish. I particularly the flavoured rice but not the children. The stall owner was kind enough to provide me some white rice. The noodles were a little spicy for the children. So if you have toddlers like me, do remember to change the carbs to white rice instead. Indonesian food is always a little too heavy on the salt for me. Apart from the soup, everything else was not too salty. They have a few outlets, so do give them a try and your nearest outlet. 

Food Tour 67: Halal Selection

I have always been struggling to find halal places when I eat with my friends. So here's one to my muslim readers.

1. Chic-a-Boo

Not sure how I missed this place, but Chic-a-Boo serves great fast food at affordable price. There are even kids meal available for the children. The portion is so huge, I had to takeaway. Great place for students or gatherings with friends!

2. Picanhas'

For lunch meetings, Picanhas' is a great place to go. The food is great and best news of all, there is no GST, the savings are huge. The portion isn't fantastic, but it is fine because this is one of those places you are quite tempted to try the whole menu! I have tried almost everything, and I love every food served. Quite frankly, this is one of those places I am happy to go not just because it serves halal food. Great for dates too!

3. Ali Jiang

This is probably one of my favourite restaurant and I love that it serves Halal Chinese. It allows a lot of muslim friends to join in during our CNY lo-hei session. Their food are pretty tasty and comes along with impressive plating. Given that it is xinjiang cuisine, some of their drinks/ desserts are not really palatable. My advise is always to fix on the mains and get the fruit drinks, skip desserts. I always leave happy! The price is slightly on the high side. Good for business lunches because the place is very presentable!

Food Tour 66: Bras Basah Complex - Part 2

It is not just the variety of shops that was interesting (though you probably won't walk in to all, I will probably do another post separate on why we lack courage to walk into art galleries.) the food there was really intriguing too!

1. All Things Hainanese

I am not sure about you, but I don't really know much about their culture/ food. All I know was Hainanese Chicken Rice. All Things Hainanese is really quite a must-try cos heritage food like these are quite hard to find in Singapore. When we stepped into their shop, we were hit by a strong waft of ginger which knocked the husband and my daughter out. Sure enough all their food contain a lot of ginger and coconut (except the ang ku kueh). We tried the Yi Bua, Chinese Fevervine Dessert and their Ang Ku Kueh. The former 2 is a good to try for me, but maybe cos I am not a Hainanese, my taste buds are not wired for me. Their Ang Ku Kueh is the same as what we normally get outside, but their skin is really thin and mochi-like. One of the better few. Although not every item is up my alley, I am still highly intrigued and can't wait to try more as there is quite a bit of surprise element in their cuisine.  

2. Ketojiak

We just wanted to find a place to rest and eat something cold and sweet. It was a surprisingly good find because their ice cream were very delicious. I wasn't expecting much because it was keto-diet and was suitable for diabetic. But the ice-cream turned out to be really thick and creamy. I love it and even ended up googling to check out if they have any closer outlets to home. Oops only one. Guess we need to do delivery or just pop by whenever we are nearby! The staff there were also really friendly and warm. 

3. Shifu Food Court

Usually food court doesn't excite me much, but this does because their food is so, so good. We tried the Hua Jie dumplings, which I thought was pretty pricey, but really good. I ended up taking away some because we can't eat 10 at one seating when there are other mains, the takeaways were still very yummy when cold. I am impressed. My kids ate the wanton mee at Chun Noodle Bar and I have to say it is one of the best Wanton noodles I ever had. I actually want to try more of their food. There is even air-con seating and the toilet are very clean too! I will be back!

Food Tour 64: Great Food Choices (CBD)

Not denying, I really love enjoying a good meal every now and then. Some of the great calories choices I have made recently.

1. Spicy Noodle

Initially, I thought my husband was exaggerating when he said they were good and he had them twice within a span of 1 week when he was in Taiwan. When they finally opened in Singapore, I decided to give it a try. And boy it was good. The noodles were nice and springy and the broth was thick and yummy. It is of my better find. And honestly, who cares about the price! I am definitely going there again!

2. Moon Moon Food

This was another recommendation from the husband and I think it taste way better than Du Xiao Yue (which also hails from Taiwan). I tried their signature spicy sesame noodle and it was not to be missed. It was so good I could finish one on my own. My other favourite was their braised platter. I have never tasted anything so good. I can safely say I will be back for more. 

Apart from that, we also had the soup and a fried rice for the kids. I also tried their grass jelly (combined with black fungus). I quite enjoy it but I don't think it is for all (thicker version of the grass jelly drink). In all, a place to check if you hadn't.

3. Yogurt Planet

Personally, I feel this is not for everyone. But it is my favourite meal/ dessert replacement because I feel it is healthy. Please tell if me if it isn't. You are charged based on the size of the bowl and you can fill it up as much as you want. Part of me always feel like I got a great deal cos I will fill up all the way to the brim. There are a few delicious yoghurt flavours to choose from and lots of toppings  variety, which include fruits. I use it to give my daily fruit intake. :) Some of the toppings are pretty exotic which makes it an interesting treat!

Food Tour 61: Just bursting our Budgets

It is the time of the month where we try to eat a little luxuriously. What we realise is that not all expensive stuff are always good and worth its value. 

1. Miyoshi

This place was frigging expensive. We went for the set lunch. It was good, but definitely not worth the hundreds we were paying. At that price point, we would have a lot of options that gave better bangs for our bucks. The lobster was fresh and slain on the spot, but given that it was cooked in a broth, the freshness honestly wouldn't change the flavour of the dish much. Ambience was great, but not a place I would go again given that it was quite out of the way at Sentosa. 

2. Shashlik

I have been here multiple times. I kind of like how it is located at the top level of the worn Far East Shopping Centre. When you walk in through their doors, it brings you into another world. There is an old retro western charm to it. Most of their staff are quite aged, so we tend to speak Mandarin to them. For frequent customers (not us yet), they would even engage you in chit-chat like old friends. There is something warm about this place. 

The food is absolutely delicious. I swear I aim to eat every single item on the menu. Nothing has ever disappoint me to me. My favourite is Borshch soup and bone marrow. I never miss their desserts cos I love their flame show. In terms of price, you will end up around S$100+ per pax but I am fine with the bill because it is worth every penny. 

3. Atlas Bar

This place isn't named the top bar in the world for nothing. It is drop-dead gorgeous. Tourists and influencers come here to take photos. It screams opulence and feels outside of Singapore. It was so hard to get a seating so we had to settle for weekday lunch. The food is alright and so is the price. The alcohol was not cheap, but the cocktail was positively the best I had ever. I could have drank myself silly if I didn't have to pay. I don't think you should come for the food. But one thing for sure, I know I am coming back whenever I need a drink. *Winks*

Food Tour 60: The bad, The Normal, and The Good

Generally, I always eat the same few food. But on days I try out different stuff...I try to do a review on what are calories that are worth it. 

1. Cai Lin Ji

This is supposedly a famous outlet in Hubei, China. But when I tried their star dish - lotus soup, it just didn't hit me the right way. The lotus is the "Chinese lotus", which is more fibrous and sticky. I didn't like the taste of it. The soup was alright, but it felt like something I could make at home too. So I didn't get what was so special. The husband tried their noodles which I felt was pretty average too. I was reading some reviews online and it seems I may not have ordered the "right dishes". Shall give it another try. :D

2. Surrey Hills Grocer (Raffles City)

I have been to its other outlet at Joo Koon and was blown away by the quality of food. This outlet was pretty average and the price was on the high side. There was no set lunch and we ended up getting McDonald's ice cream instead cos a drink and main has crossed S$60. I have came to learn that all the outlets serve a different menu and not all outlets are good. The other one that is good is their VivoCity Brunch. Not crossing this totally, but being a little more selective. It is definitely not as good for value as per their old days. 

3. Yun Place

Ever since Milk Fish moved away from Millenia Walk, I have been struggling to find an exclusive new favourite. There are other good food there. It's just that they have other outlets at more convenient places. Finally tried it out, and it was super good. I slurped up all the soup and the meat was so soft and tender. I can't wait to be back. The food was so tasty. I just realised they are a quiet sister company to Yun Nan, no wonder the quality. You really need to drop them a visit to try them out. Enough said!

Food Tour 58 - The Finer Things in Life

It has been a while since I wrote about this. But every once in a while, we do pamper and indulge ourselves. You can bookmark this review for special occasions :D

1. Jiak Kim House

This one popped up on my social media. Honestly, sometimes food that hijacked me like this usually don't taste too good. So I was very pleasantly surprised by theirs. They are located at the old Zouk. The whole warehouse was of opulence deco, made possible with their high ceilings. For their reservations, they asked me to provide a photo (to allow a proper welcome). I did, but still they asked me who I was. Like what the...

Apart from that, the food was really good and a place which I would strongly recommend. We did Ala-carte and all their food were really good. If I had to recommend, these are my top 3 favourites: Mushroom Herbal Tea 'Macchiato' (S$24), Seafood Laksa Fettuccine (S$44) and Tingkat of Memories (S$26). We went with the waiter's recommendations. Even the complimentary bread and Entremet were top-notch. 

2. Hansik Dining Collective

The Korean Raw Marinated Crab was in my "To-Eat" list for the longest time. I have seen a lot of raves on social media which first pipped my interest. Close friends have also spoke well about this dish. So, I really wanted to try it. I hunted this place down because it was said to have the best, most authentic dish. It was worth the trouble because the ambience of this place was top-notch and the food which we ordered were all unique and super yummy!

The Ganjang Gyejang (Soy Raw Crab) was nearly a hundred dollars. I enjoyed it a lot but unfortunately I have slight allergies to it (this might mark my last taste of this delicacy). It is a little on the salty side, but goes well with rice. The spicy oyster and seaweed pancake was pretty unique ($35). My soup was a seasonal special, and it was so good I felt it should be a constant on the menu. This is definitely one of the best Korean Restaurants in Singapore!

Food Tour 57: Underrated Food

I decided to dedicate this post to the under-rated food I have tried. Not all F&B engage reviewers, but lucky from them, sometimes I just like to do free shout-outs :D These are some really good ones, so do give them a try and support. I would be so sad if some of them leave our F&B scene.

1. Broadway American Diner

This is such an under-rated place. This is our second time there to try their menu. I don't know why they don't have the crowd they truly deserve because their food is insanely delicious. True to its American diner culture, the serving was extremely generous too. I wanted clean shots but the kids couldn't stop pinching the food (and I don't blame them). The only issue is that because most of the food is deep-fried, it can get surfeiting after a while. We ta-bao-ed back and it still tasted good when cold. This place deserves more patrons. 

2. a8undance

This is a really popular place which I am sure some of you may have heard of ahead. (Sorry, but I gatekeep, haha. Just couldn't deal with the longer queues.) Not that I have been there that many times, but I attempt to eat everything on their menu eventually. Generally, all that I have tried surpassed expectations. Here are some of my recurring favourites - Peanut Ice Cream Roll, Gua Bao (not in photos) and San Bei Chicken. 

A $40/ pax budget should feed you well. Also, I would like to add on a drink every time I am there. They have a few outlets, but I always go to the Redhill one so I am not fully sure of the quality at their other outlets. But please make reservations otherwise the walk-in queue can be quite crazy. 

3. A-One

I am sure many of you have heard of this place. It has become such a staple that many might have forgotten how great of a comfort food this is. What I really love about their porridge, noodles apart being delicious is that they are really kids-friendly too. My kids love their food too. It is one of my go to place when I am out with the family (and most of their outlets are located in heartland malls), so they are easy to find. If it is a rainy day and I am near an outlet, you are so likely to find me there. Yummy and the elders in my home approve - not too salty, not too much MSG. You get my point!

Food Tour 56: Food I didn't really like...Oops

Just so you guys know, not all the food I try are always good. I always share the shitty things I tried as well so that you can avoid these pitfalls and spend your calories and money on better stuff. You are absolutely welcome. 

1. Kora Bakehouse

Newly Opened and they were going on a 1-for-1. Their original matcha drink cost S$12, which is insanely expensive. I watched them prepped the drinks and scooped tons and tons of matcha powder on it. There was a little bit of anticipation because more is always better, right? Nope, this was the absolute worse matcha I ever had in my life. They do sell food as well, but given how bad my experience with their drink was...I am scarred. 

2. Chocolate Origin

I think most people are either in camps of Awfully Chocolate or Chocolate Origin. I am actually a fan of the latter. But I think it is a deeply personal choice, so I thought I should still give Chocolate Origin a shout-out. Personally, I think the chocolate was too sweet and the bitter taste hit me too hard. I know, it doesn't entirely makes sense. So I guess it depends on how you like your chocolate. They definitely win in terms of aesthetics, which is why I have always been dying to try it. Plus, the Cacaocat makes great gifts. Apart from that, I am still an Awfully Chocolate Girlie. 

3. Moon Rooftop Bar

Interestingly, I have actually been there a few times. For the private events and their free-flow food, I enjoyed it thoroughly. It has a very beautiful moon hung in the middle of the bar which provided great ambience. This is their lunch set which I am not a fan of. First, portions were small and service was slow. Not ideal for office people who have a tight lunch schedule. 

Presentation was really pretty and the food generally is tasty. but this egg only dish cost a whooping S$10+ and came with a free drink. I could probably make it myself for way lesser. No way for lunch set, but for after works drinks/ private event , this place is the bombz!

Food Tour 55: Delicious Finds

Some great new finds which I always walk past but never really give a try. Always try and you will ever miss out. Hehe. 

1. Le's Banh Mi

This is truly one of those restaurants we have walked past countless times, but never bothered to try. The husband was commenting that it survived pretty long along the Raffles Link while many of the other restaurants (some being chain restaurants) have fallen. Surely, there must be something special about it. And so, we decided we must find out four ourselves. 

The food is actually very outstanding and the price was ridiculously reasonable. I just don't understand why it doesn't have the crowd it deserves. Because it is usually so empty when I walk past it, I felt it didn't deserved a meal stop. Really, that was my loss. I am so going to be back!

2. Omote

Extremely frivolous, we were attracted to it because it had a cute polar bear for a mascot. Also, we didn't have time to queue for Koji. Best decision ever, cos the food was really good. The menu is huge (which sometimes means the restaurant serve sub-par food due to the lack of variety, but it wasn't the case for this) so there is good variety if you are looking for dining options for a huge group of picky eaters. 

The design and the name is not intuitive Jap. But their ramen, dons were delicious and adequately priced. I had such a good meal, I will definitely be sharing this place with my group of friends.

3. Alice Boulangerie

This is a place I really like to take away sweet treats from. I used to observe it but not step in because it looked so posh and the desserts were so delicate-looking. It felt expensive. Apart from selling pretty treats, it is also full-fledged restaurant. I have came to really enjoy the food there. And it is actually pretty value for money given the taste, ambience etc. So don't get cheated by feelings sometimes, otherwise you miss great places like this just by not stepping in <3 No photos on its full meal because it was not an appropriate setting for me to snap photos.

Food Tour 53: Must-haves at Pasir Ris

To be quite frank (and spoilt), I am not really much of a fan of hawker food. I don't really enjoy the feeling of sweating while eating. Especially with children, eating at the hawker became a way harder task. It is as though you magnify the difficulty level by 100x. Gosh. 

But Pasir Ris Hawker Centre struck me quite differently. First of all, I really like its aesthetics. I also love that they had a family corner. The food I will be recommending is on priced on the higher end, but the quality was really good and they are not the norm you would see at a hawker centre. 

1. Liang Liang Golden Pao Fan

First of all, Pao Fan is not really a food you will see in Hawker Centers, let alone with collagen. This was truly delicious and of restaurant standards. With all the additions we added, this bowl you see is above S$10. It is definitely pricey for hawker standards. But deep down, I knew I would never get anything similar at this price. My only grouse would be that I need this to be located closer to home. Maybe it is just me, but I can eat this hearty meal every single day. This is my #1 food at Pasir Ris Hawker Centre. 

2. Prawnaholic

This is however, the husband's favourite. Not much of a prawn noodle person, but the soup sure was flavourful and very gao. The ingredients were also packed. This is also above S$10. If you are sharing, I suggest to go for the Pao Fan first because this would overpower everything you ate LOL! But if you like prawn noodles, you shouldn't miss this. Even I could tell it was outstanding. 

3. Piz'za Amore

Across the road, there was this pizza place at the newly opened Pasir Ris Mall that serve absolutely delightful food. Because I was kinda full, I couldn't order much mains - but the pizza, potatoes and Cannoli. The Cannoli dessert was such a must-have. I have not seen this elsewhere. I only ordered 3 items and all 3 were hits. Also the service here was spectacular. The waiter was friendly and very attentive to our needs (sometimes he realise our cups were empty, the kids tossing their cutlery on the floor way ahead of me). I would love to go back again. Or, please open an outlet closer to my home :P

Food Tour 52: The Finer Food in Life

It is that month where we tend to eat a little finer, so here's a short list which you can consider for your next celebration! The food is really good and I enjoyed myself fully dining in these places. Do note that the price may be on the higher side. 

1. TungLok Peking Duck

This is the #1 place I would go every time I have a bit of cravings for the Peking Duck, In fact, every time, before the delivery of my children, I am bound to visit there. Haha. I love the experience of having the duck being presented to you as it is being diced and served. I would usually request for the remainder to be cooked into a separate dish. For me I can eat it on its own, but my husband would usually order some carbs to pair. Their noodles are excellent too by the way. I don't think their food ever disappoints, but it can be pricey. Having said that, peking dish is not a cheap dish to begin with. 

2. Yuta

If you are a fan of Omakase, Orchard Plaza is a place with all these hidden gems. I have a little bucket list to try all the Omakase there, so you can do a look out as and when. Note: it is just not possible for me to eat everything at one period la, it is expensive you know. But if any sponsors are keen, please hit me up!

For those who are unfamiliar with omakase, basically you leave the details to the chef. You kinda know there will be x. no of courses and there will be sashimi, sushi, carbs etc. but you don't entirely know how it will all tie up. Yuta lies behind a mysterious blue room and I did my first ever sake pairing with them. I loved the sake they matched for me and even bought a bottle after. The food was really good. I could eat it every day if I had the money. I thought it was a great start for my bucket list :D

3. Angie's Oyster Bar

I may not have shared here before, but I love oysters. But this was one place where I actually could taste the difference and the freshness of the oysters, no joke. Just stepping into this place with its tasteful ambience and all, you probably know your wallet is going to feel a lot emptier. It is located like in an "ulu" place, but there was still a bit of a crowd and reservations were needed. From that, you already know this place is good!

We had the Japanese Little Neck Clams with sourdough bread ($34), servings of assorted clams (~$60) and Linguine Alla Puttanesca Con Vongole ($34) and Ube Cornbread ($18). Everything was good but the dessert in particular blew me away because I never tasted anything like this. But the service was a bit disappointing, I told the kitchen to do something special given that it was the husband's birthday. And no, they couldn't even write a simple happy birthday on the dessert plate. :(

Food Tour 51: Family Friendly Cafes

My kids really love Chinese food, so I thought I will list a few places here which parents can consider to bring their children. These places has been approved by my picky #2. 

1. Great Nanyang Heritage Cafe

Every time, I am at Sommerset, I always wonder why the queue is insane. To be fair, I always there to eat something else. This time round, I thought I would give it a try because they had food my children would like. Their food is awesome. My daughter love the bee hoon and rice. My son polished off the Kaya French Toast (which was divine by the way, I could have eaten it all myself too.) All the food we ordered were hits, I went back a separate time bringing the husband and he agreed it was yummy and very affordable too! Thumbs up!

2. Old Habits Cafe 

This is really my secret hideout. I love their food here, just that it is a little inconvenient and difficult to reach. Sometimes, I go there just to have some quiet time. My children love this place for a different reason. These place have lots of antique toys for sale. The good thing is they are not exorbitant and the children are allowed to fiddle with the toys. The portion (even for the kids meal) is really generous. I brought the extended family there but it was more of a 50% hit rate. Oh well. But one can agree there is a lot to see while you are there. 

3. Breadyard

We chanced upon this cafe place and was initially sucked in because it had a kids section with cute rocking houses. Initially, we just wanted to find a place which could sufficiently entertain the kids so we could have a break and enjoy some food. But this place was a surprise find because the food was really yummy. The only problem is that it is at a mall right outside One-North station and generally nobody really goes there unless for work? (Please correct me if I am wrong.) I guess if you live in the West, it is still worthy of a trip there. Their bakery is really good. *drools*

Food Tour 50: More Yummy Food

Some of the yummy food we had over this period that is worth having a huge shout-out. Side note, some of these places might have been mentioned before in previous Food Tour post. But since they had an updated menu, I thought it was worth, re-sharing lest you guys are interested. 

1. Chen's Mapo Tofu

This is not the first time I am raving about it. You can read about my other reviews here. The thing about me is that because of its name...I have never ventured beyond the Mapo Tofu. (There is a reason why it is named like this right?) But I have heard how good their other food were, so this time I finally gave their seasonal specials a try. And you know what, it was truly good. Yumz! Till now, this chain outlets is one of my favourite. Love it!

2. Stinky

If you are a fan of durians, you would really need to drop this place a visit. Generally, I am no fan of durian by-products. But this one actually hit my standards. There is always a long queue. Go to the place too late, and the mousse is sold out. You must try the following while you are there: Stinky Bowl, Stinky Bomb, Stinky Roll, and Stinky Chendol. To be quite fair, I have only tried this 4 and I am recommending these 4. You know how much I really love this already. Hahaha! Not all can be taken away, so it is really worth making a trip there!

3. Miam Miam

I think Miam Miam has up its game for sure. I went there once before with some friends and honestly it didn't struck me as anything memorable. But this time round, I went back with my kid and I thought wow the food was really good. We had the breakfast set by the way. Their fluffy pancakes were awesome. Just posting about this is making me drool all over again. Maybe I should give their mains a try too, but now all I want is their breakfast set. Yumz! 

Food Tour 49 - Around the World

Guess I have been really adventurous in my food choices lately, because I can actually do a post on the different cuisines. All these cuisines are rather distinct in taste on their own, so they should really bring your tongue on a world tour!

1. Kapitan

This was a recommendation from my bestie. Apparently, the owner's son is pretty popular in the social media space, for good reasons too since he is pretty cute. Dumpling is not very uncommon in our Chinese culture but I have never tried Russian/ Ukraine dumplings. The place is decorated with curiosities, but what really impressed me was their thoughtful services. We came in a pair and the owner quickly topped up one of the dishes when she realised the dumplings served was an odd number. <3

Food-wise, it was an interesting twist to our versions of  dumpling and was delicious. Not sure how authentic they are yet, but I know a Russian so I will ask. It is definitely not cheap, but given the ingredients and novelty, I would still make another trip down. :D

2. Kafe Utu

I always felt I was a pretty easy-going person when it comes to food. Guess what, I don't like African food. This place is awesome in terms of ambience and given the queue, I am pretty sure I am an abnormality. The flowers and plants deco at their waiting area would just blow your mind away. I just don't really like non-spicy curry-looking stews and their spices just hit me in the wrong way. Even their desserts were interesting but didn't leave me as deep as an impression. It is more of an one-time novelty for me. I probably wouldn't initiate any meet-up there given the price is not the most affordable. 

3. Sofra

Turkish food is apparently a hot favourite in my family. Even my kids love it. Just a caveat, I love lamb so if you are not into gamey meat, you probably won't share the same taste as me. Turkish food is apparently also pretty diabetic-friendly. This was one of my go-to place when I had gestational diabetes. Price-point, it is also very affordable. Plus point for being located in one of the more kids-friendly mall - Marina Square <3

Food Tour 48 - Gems we found

Getting a bit hurt when people have been commenting I put on weight, but I guess that is my own doing since I am the one that is always munching non-stop. Here's some good food in the town area I found before I decide to diet and stop eating good food

1. Milkfish

If you enjoy fish soup, this is one of the must-go places. The soup is organic, without additional flavourings and the sides are delicious. Most importantly, the food served is nutritious and also very suitable for the kids. I like to go for the set meals because they are more value for money too. You can even order their fish soup broth if you would to make cook your own meals at home. Do give them a visit, I am sure you will be a converted fan like me!

2. Dako Tea

I am not really much of a bubble tea/ drinks sort of person. But this lemon tea drives me nuts. There is something really addictively fragrant about it. Just so you know, this is located in the opposite direction of the part of Orchard (Taste Orchard) I normally frequent, and still every time without fail, I walk towards it. It is so under-rated. Part of me is so afraid that after this post, it creates a frenzy because seriously I don't want to queue!

3. Kenangan Coffee

This is the best coffee ever. If I am not wrong, it helms from Indonesia. I know some people are not fans of this brand, but I love it. I have brought a few friends there and they agreed the coffee is good. You can pick your own beans and customise your brew. Not an expert in the type of beans yet, but their latte and flavoured coffee drinks are divine. Please try it, I think it is cheaper and tastier than Starbucks. Because people still haven't realised how nice their brew is, there is always seats too!

Food Tour 47 - Don't waste your calories on this

 I thought there is merit in giving negative reviews as well cos well, not all food I've ate so far are good. And some really kinda of made me fume. I don't really want others to experience the same. 

1. Crab Set Go

This is one of the most disappointing food I ate. I never thought the service of a place matters, but this fell way below expectation. I initially thought the place attracted a decent lunch crowd for its lunch set. But later realised, it is how they sit the customers. They would always make sure we fill the outside seating first. The lunch set came with an unappetizing soup and refillable drink. The drink was never refilled because there was only 1 service staff who was managing everything. 

The waiting time was also unbearably long. I spent 20 mins mindlessly gaming and finally got fed up and told the service staff perhaps he can serve me the drink and soup first. He took 5 mins to respond. The mains came around 15 mins later. That's 40 mins of my lunch gone waiting and...the meal cost almost $$20. Eye roll in disgust. 

2. The Social Space (Potong Pasir)

I am quite a softie when it comes to social projects and giving beneficiaries a source of livelihood. But it is a whole different thing when there is a lack of effort in the food. First of all, the aesthetics of the place is gorgeous. We went there cos we were going to be in the area. The coffee seems diluted and toasted bread did not feel firm. It was that sort of place we knew we wouldn't be back the second time. 

The better food was the acai bowl and the cold brew. Just to be sure that I wasn't biased, I also check in with a few friends/ relatives who patronised them before. Most asked me why I even bothered going, guess I am not alone. 

3. Miracle

If you are a fan of JJ Lin, then this is a must-go for you. But...you won't see him there. Haha. When it first open, there was a long queue, I guess it was just the fan power. By now, there is barely any queue and mainly Chinese tourist posting online about their idol's shop. It is still quite difficult to grab a seat. I gave their drink a try and it was quite Starbuck-ish. Decent, but not worth going all the way there for. (Agreed by a fellow friend who was there with me. ) FYI, we like JJ Lin's songs too, but not hardcore fans. 

Food Tour 46: Yummy Food at Tanjong Pagar

I must be spending too much time in this area because I actually accumulated a list of food worthy to share. Without further ado, let's dive deep into what is yummy. 

1. Tracy Juice Culture

I have been eying this for the longest time because of its interesting menu such as the mushroom udon and the wild rice congee. I tried the latter and enjoyed it thoroughly. It did make me feel as though I made a conscious effort to eat healthier, although the cheng tng probably negated the effect. I was initially afraid that the healthy food would taste awful but guess my fears were unfounded. Will probably be back to try out their other products. 

2. Toff Loft Cafe

Usually, I have an extremely soft spot for homey cafes and I am glad that I gave this a try. The food was very healthily prepared and it tasted awesome too. It doesn't taste as cheap as some set meals you can get outside, but the quality of food pretty makes up for it. You can definitely feel the love and effort put into preparing the meal. And I like how most people do takeaways so I get a nice tiny corner all to myself to chill and enjoy the meal. I always go back when I am in that area :D

3. Doco

This is one of my favourite sinful food at International Plaza...until I bought its bundle set 8 for $8 each. I had so much of it, I am way over it for now. Basically, I love how much texture - crunchy and slimy, each bowl had. Personally, the beef rice bowl set taste best - I have tasted almost all they have on their menu. I have bought it home a few times and it still manage to maintain its goodness. Just that, I can't eat 8 on my own and I can't convince my coworkers to use my vouchers (not the easiest to share).
