Awesome Thai Food: Noodle Thai Thai Kitchen

You guys know how much I love Thai food. When it comes to affordable Thai food, everyone would think this particular shop which used to be at Shaw Tower. However, lately, that place is always overbooked and doesn't really allow reservations. So, I am very happy to chance upon Noodle Thai Thai Kitchen.

It serves a good variety of the usual favourites and also more the more uncommon dishes such as jade noodle, khao soi and stewed pork rib with longan. In addition, Noodle Thai Thai Kitchen, making it a very good place for gatherings.

We visited Noodle Thai Thai Kitchen on a Friday evening, and boy this place was packed around 8pm. And it every reason to be so. The food here was really yummy and the price was reasonable. It is conveniently located, 2 traffic lights down Bugis (the home of great malas and thai cuisine).

The interior of Noodle Thai Thai Kitchen was cosy. But what really impressed me most was the service staff. Okay, generally speaking, places that serve affordable and delicious Thai food always seem to have overly grouchy workers. But at Noodle Thai Thai Kitchen, the staff were very attentive to all the customers' needs and were fast to react and serve! *Thumbs up*

These are some of the food we tried and they are all good! From left to right, top to bottom:
  1. Signature Jade Noodle (Claypot Flower Clam) - $12.90: This is quite uncommon in Thai Restaurants. I always love spinach noodles and have a super soft spot for lala. So I am definitely coming back for this.
  2. Northern Chang Mai Khao Soi - $7.90: Another uncommon dish. It is basically curry noodle. But unlike our local curry, there is a stronger coconut taste but has a much less spicy kick to it. Good for people who can't take spicy food. My bro loves it though it is not my thing. Everyone needs to try it at least once because it is just not served everywhere.
  3. Thai Style Moo Yang - $12: This dish is frigging addictive. And it taste really good with the sticky rice. Yes, they serve sticky rice here! It is also a good drinking snack, so please order it when you are there. I was really full when this was served, but I just can't stop eating. That's how good it was!
  4. Mango Salad - $8: A very decent dish and it is good to break the taste. The next time I am there, I promise I will try out other salads, ok!
  5. Stewed pork rib with longan - $7.90: My Dad akin this to rou gu cha with longan. Perfect food for rainy days and the longan brings out the sweetness in the soup. (I am going to throw in longans to all the soups I brew in future). By the way, this was the dish featured on Lian He Zao Bao. *winks*
  6. Thai Style Stir Fried Kangkong -$8 - Another uncommon dish and a great drinking snack. The sauce is amazing, so remember to dip them in, ok!

Although we didn't have any of the alcohol, the drinks met the mark for me. Thai drinks are usually very sweet. I have been trying to cut down a lot on my sugar intake and I am happy minus the sweetness, these drink are still awesome.
  1. Thai Lime Soda - $3.80: Not my thing, but my bro calls this the best drink!
  2. Thai Green Latte - $3.80: My favourite drink there, not too sweet and just nice for me.
  3. Thai Milk Tea - $3.30: It still gives you the Thai Milk Tea goodness without being overpoweringly sweet.
  4. Thai Fresh Coconut - $4: Truly a young one, its meat was soft and tender while the juice was sweet.

Desserts isn't the strongest suit there. We tried the Jasmine Red Ruby ($5.90) and the Organic Sticky Rice with Thai Honey Mango ($7.90).  Before we end off the post, just wanted to do a quick share on an unbelievably good deal I heard while I was there.

If you are in the vicinity during lunch time on a weekday, you should die die make your way there. Because they have this amazing lunch promotion. For $6.90, you get a main, a drink and a dessert. Some of the favourite I have featured are also in this lunch promo list. Don't say I bojio, ok!

Best Thai Tom Yum: Blue Jasmine

I am sure by now all of you know how much I love my Thai food. I am quite excited to introduce this place to you because the Thai food is really yummy and halal too! It is now one of my to-place now with my Muslim friends when we need a girl's day out!

Blue Jasmine is located at Farrer Park Hotel (Convenient for a staycation hehe!) It is located on 5th pool and overlooks the pool. Although it is slightly pricier than the other Thai restaurants I have been to, it has the best atmosphere and the serving portions are generous!

If you only have tummy space for very selective items, these are the 2 must try(s) are the Larb Salmon (Left) -S$18 and Prawn Tom Yum (Right) - S$20 and their desserts. The Larb Salmon is one of the most interesting dish I have had to date and you probably can't find it anywhere else. It is a starter dish. The recommended way of consumption is to place the salmon roe on the rice crackers. But it taste good even on its own. :D

The other dish that I would highly recommend is the Prawn Tom Yum. Although Tom Yum is pretty much a staple at most Thai restaurants, this one tasted exceptionally good. It was aromatic and you could taste the freshness of the ingredients. It is easily the best I have had to date. Please don't miss these 2 dishes!

Apart from the 2 dishes that were mind-blowing, the rest of the item we tried on the menu was delightful as well. And you can even order blue rice to go with too! (Plus points for that!)
  1. Dancing Crispy Sea Bass (Top left) - S$28: This dish had fantastic presentation and it tasted good too. But perhaps it is a Chinese thing, but we always equate fresh fish to steamed fish. So this was marked down simply because it was fried. Otherwise it would been a must try recommendation!
  2. Mocktails - Blue Jasmine and Tropical Paradise (Top right) - S$10: Appearance wise, Blue Jasmine (a gradient of blue) was definitely way more pleasing in terms of each colour shades and all. But I felt Tropical Paradise tasted better and was a better drink to go with the dishes.
  3. Glass Noodles (Bottom left) - S$16: This actually tasted like super good Hokkien Prawn Noodle! Would recommend this if you are going for a local flavour.
  4. Larb Chicken Balls (Bottom Right) - S$12: Among the dishes, this was most disappointing not because it is not nice, but it was just too normal compared to the rest. And especially when you have other yummy stuff on the menu and limited tummy space, you probably would want to sit out on this.

And nobody should miss out on their desserts. It is fun (by that I mean insta-worthy), beautiful and taste super good! I love Red Ruby (S$12) and I also love the modern twist they did on it. It is so unexpected that Red Ruby can even taste better than Mango Sticky Rice (S$14).

One thing I really love about Blue Jasmine was their generous serving of coconut milk. And that's really the whole highlight if you are a coconut lover, because it gives all these desserts the oomph and woomph and leave your day sweet and satisfying. Ending with a Boomerang we made. :D And seeya all soon at Blue Jasmine.

Som Tam - Thai Fusion Restaurant Review

Not surprising from my moniker, my favourite cuisine is Thai - rich, savory spicy food. Given that when I eat out, this is the usually the Top 3 cuisines I would eat, I think I can provide a pretty fair, but maybe slightly bias perspective.
Fortunately, it is once again a sibling get-together day. So, my brother has kindly decided to contribute feedback to make sure the review is not skewed in any sense. My brother's favourite cuisine is Chinese and seafood (Is that even a cuisine? *Roll Eyes).
hungry-siblings
Here's a photo of the happy siblings indulging in their delicious platter. So a brief introduction of Som TamSom Tam is part of the Jus Delish Group, which owns Ghin Kao, Kwan Inn Vegetarian and Talay Kata as well. All the dishes are the creative product of their managing director, Ralph Liow.
Som Tam is more known for their Thai Fusion Dining. So a lot of the dishes are slight twist from the traditional Thai Food in a good, yummy way. They are considerably trendy in their ingredients so don't be shock by seeing truffle, burgers or even salted egg as ingredients in their menu.
tom-yum-black
Som Tam has a new menu launched in 1st December. So what we had last evening was mostly the signature dishes from their menu. Tom Yum is a must have when you are in a Thai Restaurant. So mostly, you see them either red, or colourless. This is the first time I have ever seen Tom Yum Black.
Presenting Tom Yum Black, the soup base is stewed, simmered for 3 hours before adding the squid ink and the feast of fresh seafood. When we saw Sotong inside the soup, we pretty much guess the black came from squid ink. I didn't try the prawns but my brother said the prawns were bitter maybe cos from the squid ink. If you don't like something too spicy, you might want to tell the chef beforehand, because this was way hot even for my standards.
deep-fried-chicken-with-creamy-salted-egg
I don't think this is entirely Thai, but the Deep Fried Chicken with Creamy Salted Egg is so dang good. I endorse it. Please order it if you are there. It is not that uncommon in Singapore, but Som Tam did it better. I lost all table manners as I unabashedly gobbled up the last piece, scraps and the plate if I could.
Even my brother did not make snide remarks about "Nothing Special". Mind you, he will say such stuff when he eats. Talk about hurting a chef's feelings. But this one really pleased him. He was like "thumbs up".
king-crab-pasta
If you are seafood lover, you might want to try King Crab Pasta as well. It reminded us a lot of a very delicious angel-hair pasta we had in another restaurant. Not the type with gravy, the noodles is doused mild Tom Yum seasoning. But it is not spicy at all.
The only grouse the critical siblings was that it can be quite messy to eat if you don't know how to handle the pincer. I would say I am an expert in it after someone shown me once. :D My brother is quite the contrary. It is not that difficult but you just need to know the technique. But the mess was worth it according to my brother.
som-tam-drinks
Thirsty, here are some drinks which may be of interest to you.
  1. Thai Iced Tea - A must have at all Thai Restaurant but my brother thinks it is nothing special.
  2. Coconut Mojito - Something special, he swapped his Thai Iced Tea for mine, cos a ChaaYen must have ChaaYen.
  3. Yuzu Honey Iced - My brother says it is nothing special, but I find it a good thirst quencher and something that is lighter after a savory meal.
  4. Thai Green Tea Freeze - The brother thinks it is more special than the milk tea. Yea, actually most people like the Green Tea compared to the Milk Tea. Cos I think there is the additional pandan scent in it.
mango-with-black-sticky-rice
If you have a sweet tooth like me, don't miss out the desserts. You might need to take 2 instead of 1 portion. Haha. Everybody loves the Mango Sticky Rice, so we just had to try it. The Sticky Rice is once again shockingly black, because it is the Or Chu Bei (Black Gluttonous Rice I think, sorry very sure with the English name).
It was a very nice combination, better than the original and even the one I had in Bangkok Airport. It doesn't look that great in photos, but please don't give it a miss. It is named the Mango with Black Sticky Rice by the way.
charcoal-toast
If you wants something that gives you good Instagram photos, I would recommend the Charcoal Toast. At first I thought it was just cream and ice-cream. But no, it has salted egg for you to drench the toast.
I am quite a salted egg lover, so I thought there should be more salted egg concoction. It is not just a look-good dessert ok, it is a piece of heaven, sinful one though. Yikes.
som-tam
And here's some other food we had that didn't stand up as much.
  1. Deep Fried Tom Yum Soft Shell Crab
  2. Pan-Seared Salmon Rice Burger - The rice was really the plain rice so we actually mixed with the Tom Yum Soup. My brother felt some soya sauce to dip would be nice. The Salmon is pretty good though.
  3. Krapaw Neua - Good but too full liao to even think of licking the plate.
som-tam-ambassadorsYou are definitely likely to come back for more because firstly you will be very satisfied with the food. And secondly, there is really no way you can try everything during a visit. Looking at my brother's face of confusion, so flustered with what to start first. So I thought I would want to share with you the Membership E-card.
Just for a sign up fee of S$19.90, you will get S$30 worth of full value, And every 10% of the bill each visit will be converted into points. And on your birthday, you get another S$25 with double the points! Also you might want to check out their platform which let you have access to prioirty booking. And if they fail to deliver your first dish after 15 mins you arrived at the restaurant, the next meal is on them!!! Great deal right!
