Tile: Made for the lost and forgetful

Before I had my first kid, I was already pretty forgetful. I would always misplace my things because I don't put them back to the same place. I would basically leave them in the most random place and would need to retrace my steps sometimes to find them. It is particularly frustrating for myself and people around me when it comes to critical items because I end up delaying everybody's schedule. 

A solution - Tile came into my life and it is such a life-saver. Basically, Tile is like a tracker and it works very well for people who doesn't use Apple ecosystem. I found a video that describes very well how it works. You just it up and on your bluetooth and you are good to go. 

Although I got the set that comes in 4, I didn't really need that many so my FIL actually took 2 and set the rest in his phone. (Not all has to be tagged to the same phone). They all works the same, but just that different sizes may fit wallets etc. better.  I placed one in my wallet and another in my kid's bag. What I really like about it is that it works 2 way. If my phone was missing, I could also press the button from the tile in my wallet and my phone would start singing a tune.

The technology is definitely pretty cool. I did flaunt it a few times at my workplace. The kids were also very impressed. During hide-and-seek, they would press their tracker to ring me out. Not how it was meant to be used, but yeah. The more people that uses it, the more timely the tracking would be. My only grouse is that the batteries can't be changed. 

You also link it to your other devices that are tile-friendly. My fitbit and dell laptop are smiling :) Generally, for Singaporeans, most people attach it to their pets, kids' bags, car keys and other personal belongings that are of value. Would definitely recommend this buy. I feel less anxious now that my items don't go missing anymore. My quality of life is way better. 

Flower Power - Golden Gift

Ever since I fell sick, I realise the beauty of flowers...literally. I finally understood why people send flowers to perk others up during sad moments. Because flowers do have the power to lift moods. Received some flowers from Golden Gift for Mother's Day. I went for the freestyle flower arrangement because I like displaying my flowers on my table top. If it was a bouquet, I would have to rearrange myself into the pots and to be honest, I suck at flower arrangements.

They arrived nicely in a transparent bag, looking in full bloom. You know something, photos of flowers never have to be edited because they are always beautiful as it is. Immediately after receiving the flowers, I cleaned up our messy dining table (it has been neat ever since). I even propped myself to work beside my bouquet because that was how much I love staring at them and enjoying the scent of nature. Usually, I hate things that create more housework for me. When the petals fell (the purple ones), I felt like the Beast trying to reverse time, haha. 

On a separate note, I thought I would share a little more on Golden Gift and their fresh flowers services. A different Mother's Day

This year mother's day is a bit more special (not because I am also going to be a mother) but because we are all stuck indoors, thanks to Covid. In Singapore, quite a lot of services have been deemed as non-essential. So not all flower and cake deliveries are operating. We can't also go out for a meal like we normally do.

Hence, the bro and I thought it would be fun to tease my Mum a little. My Mum doesn't appear much here, even if she does, she is always portrayed as the woman who always want to "share" my clothes/ accessories that catch her eyes. Many of you may not know, she is quite a cleanliness freak too and she has such a particular way of doing the chores that we gave up doing cos we always get scolded for not doing it a specific, particular way.

The Hubs have often commented my family takes too much photos and it is true. My family love taking photos regardless the occassion. Usually, we love dressing up in our office wear but since it is WFH season we decided to show the world how we are really like at home in our old tees and shorts...hehe. 

One thing I realise from the photos, my Mum enjoys the photoshoot more when we are around. Her smile is definitely more natural and comfortable when it is taken with us. Not a full-fledged mother yet but maybe the partial joy of motherhood is joining your brood in their crazy idea of fun activities. :P Bye Bye Cabin Fever

Encharmted: Mother's Day Edition

This is a mother's day dedicated post, and so my Mum has happily graced in a video first time ever. Haha. She is not the best model, so please don't judge her alright.

Well, Mother's Day is next weekend and daughters around the world are fretting. (Yes, I realised guys don't really fret over this much. My brother has gleefully sort of assigned the Mother's Day duty to me.) If you think getting a perfect gift for your better half is difficult, the same goes for Mum. Each year, you still need to top the last.

So, what you saw in the video is a customised bracelet. For those of you who can't afford Pandora or have a thing against Pandora and their over-priced charms, this is a very good alternative to please your Mum. 

Here's a closer look of this chain. Basically, you can add on as many or as little charms or window plates as you like. You actually can make something just for your Mum and she doesn't really has to worry about wearing the same thing as another woman out there. With a plier, you can easily remove the charms yourself. Otherwise, I would recommend you the Clip on Dangles.

I consulted my brother whether we should give our Mum this bracelet as her Mother's Day Gift and he was like "yea, very nice, she will like it!" And not only did she like it, she was glad she didn't have to share it with me because of the "Mom" window plate. It is as though she has been given all the rights to it. Bleh.

If you remember a few years back, there was this trend on memory lockets and there were so many people selling it...at sky-rocket price, which was kinda of annoying. Now, this fad kinda of died down. So if you want to get one for Mum, yourself or your friend, now is the time. And get it from Encharmted. Theirs are the cheapest in the market I have seen to date (actually there is much players in the market also.)

So what are memory lockets? For those who have never heard of this, it is basically a transparent locket where you can place tiny items (flat of course) in it. Usually, how most people use it would be to commemorate an important milestone which happened in your life. You wear it close to your heart so that you will be reminded of it.

So this is the Mother's Day version, which comes with a frozen flower in it. You can pick window plates instead of charms but personally I think charms look nicer because you can store more memories in it. 

For the owners at Encharmted, this actually meant to be a dog tag. I think it quite a cute idea to put your address details in it and hang on your pets. But my pet is tortoise. It will never will lost and it will never let embellish me no matter how much it loves me (or the food I gave it.)

One half of the locket is bejeweled for girls who live their bling and the other side is a classic plain. Initially, I like the plain, cos I am a plain Jane. Lol. But because I was wearing this really simple dress, I decided an eye-catching accessory would work better. It is really great when you want to change your look, you can just do a simple flip.

Another great thing I want to highlight is that the locket is secured using magnets. So you won't hear the click sound, and won't have to worry about wear and tear. What if one day the clip breaks and my memories scatter around the dirty pavements!!! #Firstworldproblems. Don't worry your pretty mind over this.

Lastly, a PK between Mum and I. Would love to say I am better, but cos I love her so she can have the glory. So, all of you readers out there, I wish your Mum an early Happy Mother's Day. And for those who has yet to get anything for your Mum, here's Encharmted for you.

P.S. They always say they don't want anything. But they are always the happiest when they receive something. LOL!

A Beary Sedap Breakfast

And Mum finally got her mother's day breakfast...with her being very involved with making the scrambled eggs (her best and only dish) I am not exactly the neatest chef on earth as opposed to cooking bloggers. So get ready to see behind the scene pictures :)

You know, cooking isn't very difficult. You just need to stare at it with your Cyclops vision hard enough and a nice delicious meal will prepare itself! 

Geez, I am kidding ok, you need more than eye power to make a meal. And the prep work before serving is the tedious part. So do remember to appreciate every meal your Mum (or maid) makes considering the amount of work and love that is put into it. 

Needless to say, some of the ingredients needed for the scrambled eggs are milk, butter and cheese (We didn't add cheese though cos my Mum says it will be difficult to wash up). She didn't give us the exact proportions, just a mere "gut instincts". Also, do add a pinch of salt and pepper to give it more flavour.  A tip for budding cooks, if you add more milk, it will dilute the egg solution and it won't burn that easily.

Some optional ingredients include ham, lettuce and mushrooms. (Side note, lettuce are pronounced as "letters". I asked my Mum and my boyfriend if there were lettuce (letters) and they told me last Saturday that the postman doesn't work on weekends -.- #facepalm) Okay, back to making of the bear sandwich. To make scrambled eggs, you just have to stir and don't burn the pot. A smaller pot is preferred so that it is not that easy to burn the base.

Making the bread sandwich is pretty easy with the mould and follow the step by step guide found on Simple Gift Shop. Initially I did have my reservations if it would be that simple because the mould did not have sharp edges (very child-friendly) and I doubt it could cut it just by pressing.

You see, this is how the back of the mould looks like. My BF kept insisting that it was missing a back cover to press against to.

Nonetheless, we tested and it worked. Mystery solved: just press it against something hard la!

Just in case you guys think you can leave your kids to play with food (and be child labour), I will beseech you to think twice. The pressing part needed good strength, my sinewy arms failed to stamp the bear a good shape. The edges could either be trimmed with a knife or by hand. 

Do remember to evenly spread your fillings and not be too greedy. My brother and BF were over-zealous. My brother ended up with a bear with a protruding brain (ham peeked out) and the BF had a bear with flu, with yellow mucus (scrambled egg) spewing out of the nose. My strategy was to wrap the top and bottom with lettuce. My bears had very big foreheads LOL! Smarty bears Hehe!

And I toasted the bears too. Cos I felt they would taste better with a crust. We made quite a few and ate up all the ugly ones. We didn't really have the heart to devour the well-made ones, so pretty much used them for decoration. Hehe. My dad suggested preserving them in Tupperware. 

For future bears, we were discussing to use olives as eyes and ketchup for the mouth. Mum suggested it would taste good with Ayam sardines or tuna. Before I forget, a word of caution: there is huge wastage of bread. Some solutions we came out with was to toast the bread and eat it like healthy fries (haha) or you could eat it with a bowl of mushroom soup. Sadly we had no Campbell soup at home :(

I toasted some mushrooms as well. Everyone said it looked gross and that my readers will probably wrinkle their nose in disgust when they see the pics. My Mum berated me for not slicing the ham and cheese properly. Haha. I tore them with my hands. Have to admit the presentation was a lot better when I modified them to look like burgers (That's probably how Shroom Burgers should look like) 

But they tasted really good. You just have to butter them up and throw whatever garnish you want on it. I cut away the stalk but you could keep it I guess. Buttering it would retain the moisture in it (I think, not sure but my A's Mum said so), so the Portobello mushrooms tasted really  tender and juicy!

Guess we have come to the end of Bread Talk! Mum's verdict: Good fun for family bonding as well as to cajole children to finish up their breakfast. Suitable for retirees to have some food fun too!

It is Mummy's Day!

Ok, in my defense, I did have something small and simple planned. I wanted to make her a nice breakfast this morning. But then, her mother's instinct came to her at full force and she doubted my brother and my ability to make her something decent without poisoning her. Sighs.

She wanted to be part of the making process. Out of a whim, my Dad and her decided to spend the great Sunday to "re-landscape" our little garden so we had to shift the scrumalicious breakfast to Vesak instead. To think I even went to NTUC to buy all the ingredients on Saturday *pouts*

Fortunately, I managed to score invites to Bvlgari perfume launch, which was supposed to be the highlight of the day in case breakfast wasn't her liking. Smart me heh, considering she scraped the breakfast to have couple time with Dad.

When she heard Bvlgari, she was like "ooo the luxury jeweler", her eyes literally popped open. My Mum has a thing for jewelry and this workshop was just something too good to be passed, even though I told her it is the fragrance la!

The location was really noisy so I couldn't really hear much. But I thought the mini game to identify the scent was pretty interesting. We didn't win it though even though we were certain we got it right! Haha...a shot of my Mum sniffing. I missed that moment when she did her trademark wrinkled nose...sad

She was rather pleasantly surprised when the media got her shot. Now I know where I get my shameless trait from, this old lady told me "Must be cos she is the most presentable Mum, so they want to take me" LOL! I casually remarked maybe they will post your photo on Facebook and she was secretly pleased she might be the next famous old woman...Dots...

And it was really kind of their organiser to give each Mum a gift bag to bring home. Although I think she was more excited about our photos. -.- I honestly didn't know she was such a big camwhore. :P
