My Home Pantry: Feat. Lamby and Bunny

Yea, my cookies came again and this time it sort of survived 2 days When I first told Lamby & Bunny I love their cookies, it seems they weren't too surprise because this is their best-selling item! It is $10 a bottle and comes sealed so it can last quite a while if you don't peel and take your first bite. It is made of reduced sugar so there ain't insanely sweet. You can taste some of the bitter cocoa.

They do corporate sales and bulk orders too so don't be too surprised if you receive them from me (if you are a friend) hehe on special occassions. This is actually my idea of a perfect cookie, which also explains why I try to support their business! :D (Read about my review on their brownies here!)

Also want to take the opportunity to share on their new launches! If you are into something savoury, try out the crunchy cornflakes($12)! It is Tom Yum flavoured and highly addictive. For people with a sweet-tooth, you might want to give the crunchy rolls (also $12) a go. I can't quite figure out what these rolls are made of but it received mixed reviews in the house. I like it, but the boys didn't...they thought the texture and taste wasn't something they are used to.

Overall, these 2 items still can't beat the cookies (they are a signature for a reason). But if you wanna stock up your home pantry, these are still great snacks to add to the variety. Plus they are quite affordably priced. And if you use my quote "Chaa", you get to enjoy 10% OFF all munchies!

Yum in the Tum: Baby Weaning Journey

Honestly, I feel that weaning is as tough as breastfeeding. I feel quite ridiculous saying this, but there is a lot more to research and read up during this stage. At the start, it is pretty easy. You just feed the baby milk and he pretty much gets all the nutrients he need. But now, it gets a bit more complicated, what do you exactly even give him to make sure he has all the nutrients he needs?

Today, I am going to dive into this topic, featuing some of the tools we use and food we try for traditional weaning. I always think the right tools are pretty darn important. Use the right tools and everything gets done more effectively and you pretty much have more time to bond with your child!

Weaning

We started weaning baby off breastmilk from 6 months. His staple till now is still the organic oatmeal from Gerbers, just that the consistency has changed for a more watery form to a less watery form. (We skipped rice ceral because of the whole hoo-ha on arsenic.)  Some tips on the bib, get one with a catcher! Ours is from Marcus & Marcus ($19.90), it is really good to catch leaks and when baby is drinking water and helps to reduce the mess!

To wean him off, we use the Marcus & Marcus masher spoon and bowl set ($17.90). The spoon's masher side is really good if you are making your own puree. During meal times when baby joins us at the table (not eating), the set would also be a constant feature to let him feel like he is a part of the meal convos. We initially started with traditional weaning and this spoon was of a good length to feed him.

After a few meals, we noticed that baby seemed to want to snatch the food to feed himself. We changed to the Marcus & Marcus palm grasp self-feeding spoon ($8.90) for some of his meals. We would usually scoop and let him feed himself to reduce the mess. I wouldn't think it is a full-blw yet but it trains his motor skills.

Cooking

In my opinion, a slow cooker is the best for cooking. Although there are other utensils, I find the food cooked from a slow cooker the tastiest. If you have a thermomix at home, you can use it to do a bit of steaming. mashing etc. (The Hubs uses it, but I am not very used to it, so it is not my preferred utensil.) For my parents, they would use a traditional pot to cook my baby's puree. On work days, we would use ready-made purees from Bellamy Organic . Usually, I would get more interesting flavours so that baby can be exposed to a greater variety of food.

Storage/ Transporting

I am not a full-time caregiver for my child so he does go a few places in the day. Hegen PCTO 2 Oz Breastmilk Storage ($52 for 6) is a new product and I use it as a storage cup. I do have the Philips Avent one which I use to store my excess breastmilk, but in comparison, I do feel Hegen products are more secure (on the flip side if you are not use to the mechanism, it can be quite hard to open.)

6 is quite a good number cos I split it around 3 households. Sometimes my parents would prepare puree for my child and pack them in this storage cup to bring them over. I only got this when baby was around 5 months, but if I were to have #2, this would be pretty excellent for storing colostrum.

Snack Box

We use the Marcus & Marcus Suction Bowl ($13.90) as a snack box. This is particularly good because it is air-tight and keeps the puffs fresh. We would fill it up and let him practice his pincer grip. The first few attempts were pretty frustrating for him but now he can pretty much feed hinself and enjoys grabbing handfuls from the snack box.

The suction at the bottom is strong enough to keep the bowl upright. Even when he knocks on it, it doesn't overturn. It also helps that he hasn't quite figure out how to open the cover. He is starting to recognise this box as a treasure box of food and would look at it and make sounds so that we would pass it to him (He adores the organic puffs from Gerber by the way).

I am a wishtrender ft. reviews

The good thing about WFH is that I get to focus more on myself and set aside some time for my beauty regime. I came across Wishtrend and I have been trying out some of the brands they hold. Klairs is an all-time favourite of mine, but I decided to be a little more adventurous and have been trying out some of their different brands, whenever the opportunity arises.

Me, being me decided to do everyone a credit and will be updating my reviews here so that you folks will have some sense of the products and stay away from the not so good products if there are any. :P

I have been quite a fan of Klairs product and this new release works very well on my skin too. I read some reviews that says that this product is very drying but not for me. I have combination skin by the way. No breakouts too after using it. Would definitely include this in my holy grail!

This is my first product from elmt. It is supposed to bring out a glow, helping you to achieve a brigher and more radiant skin. For me, I haven't exactly see any visible effect, but many people have commented I look young lol. I guess it is still awesome to receive that comment given that I have a baby who doesn't allow me to have full rest :P

Note: I still have 2 more products pending review, only one face la, need to finish these 2 first before I open more to try :P

How I solved my Mummy's Hair Woes

So like all other women, I didn't manage to escape the post-partum hair loss. I was flaking quite a bit of hair by the 5th month post-partum. Okay, I have an overly-thick head of hair, so the hair loss was initially acceptable because it made my head less fluffy, lol and it did feel lighter and breezier.

However, after a while, the hairfall became quite unbearable because the OCD in me hated seeing hair on the floor. I spent a good deal of my free time sucking up hair with the vacuum and cleaning the bath area. It was a horrible waste of time. And...I was starting to look unkempt and had a slight bald patch at my fringe area. How unsightly!

Although I was in need of some hairfall treatment, I was also very concerned on whether it was breastfeeding safe. I needed a haircut that was somewhat mummy-friendly too. I don't have as much time as before to mask my hair or even blow dry it sometimes. Conditioning it was already considered a luxury.

I hopped down to Toni & Guy (Mandarin Gallery) for a quick snip and Genesis Hair Fall Treatment. Really like the location because it is near my favourite places. I can grab a bite at my favourite brunch place - Wild Honey and can cross the street to Toy'r'us at Paragon to grab a toy for my baby. After the snip, I can even tabao some nice snacks from Charlie Tea. #awesome

I am sure Mummies out there want to know more about the Genesis Hair Fall Treatment ($208). I am a bit kiasu, so after discussion with my hairdresser, we decided to skip the serum step as it will be massaged into the scalp. The treatment helps to strengthen the hair roots and prevents breakage. For me, I started to see the effect within a week

It is a 6 steps procedure which takes roughly an hour:
  1. Bain-Hydra Fortifant + Poudre Detox: Basically, it is like a cleanse the helps to break down the subum on your scalp.
  2. Booster Genesis + Concentre Ampli-force: This is a booster applied to the lengths and ends of your hair to plump the hair fibre so that they will be more resistent to breakages.
  3. Masque Reconstituant: Helps to moisturise the hair
  4. K-Water: This is applied on the lengths and ends of your hair to give it the shine.
  5. Serum Anti-chute Fortifiant: I skipped this but supposedly this helps to reduce hairfall from the roots.
  6. Defense Thermique: This helps to protect hair from high temperatures.

I left the fate of my hair to my hairstylist and she gave me a 少女时代 doll-cut. She also gave me bangs so that the bald patch could recover. Honestly, I thought I would look stupid because I always look silly with such style, especially when there is no colouring. Have to give her credit for doing quite a good job. She thinned it pretty well and my baby doesn't pull my hair anymore. (Note: My hairstylist is Candy and this trim cost around $97)

I have the option of either tying it up or letting it down. It is a simple style but it is quite a nice style for mummies. It is fuss-free, save shampoo money (LOL!) and you can still look good. Best of all, I got a refreshing new look. I was starting to feel like quite an old hag already. Once I stop breastfeeding, I am considering a slightly more adventurous - Mako Mori look from Pacific Rim. :P

It is the little things that matter!

Krftd must sound familiar to some of you. That's because we got baby's husk pillow from them (Read our reveiew here!). Krftd  also sell cushions, placemats and home fragrances. Since we were so pleased with the husk pillow, we decided to check out their home deco products this time round.

We did have the option of making cushions out of the fabrics for baby's husk pillow (FYI, they now have new designs! It is so cute that it makes me want to have #2). However, after much thoughts, the Hubs was quite against the idea because he wants to contain the cute baby items and not let it spillover and contaminate our Scandinavian themed house.

Most cushions come in a squarish shape, but Krftd offers a lumba rectangular shaped as well. After watching tons of house deco shows and having a friend who works in home deco designing, I like to think I have gained quite a bit of knowledge. I was after a bit of variation to give the home some gradient and a pop of colours. Most people would think that you can't break the natural/ woody colours of a Scandi theme, but that makes a home very dull-looking.

After popping in some cushions, the living room seem to come alive. My parents and friends commented the house is now looking a lot more homeyKrftd's cushions are tight yet fluffy. I love the tiny details they put in (Check out the leather tassel at the zipper). The covers kept both its colours and shapes when machine-washed. You can get 4 nicely stuffed cushions at less than $150 (depends on design and whether you need the stuffing)

The placemat at Krftd ($16 for 2 piece) is also quite intesresting. Unlike the normal plastic, they are made of recycled felt and can effectively take heated food better. We were initially concerned about removing the stains on it. I would say it is not as easy as removing from plastic but it is not as difficult as expected.

Comparing coasters and placemat, I think placemats make the kitchen look a bit more poshed and westernised. However, we always share servings (like typical asians) so most of the time, the placemats are in the middle of the dining table. The placemats are also rather waterproof, so liquid doesn't soak through them and spoil the table. Currently, the designs at Krftd is quite limited, hopefully they will have more in the future!

Maison 21G: Dual Scented Crayon

It was truly quite the perfect gift for mother's day! We have a 30ml customised bottle already at home (read post here!) which sits quite nicely at the vanity area. I am rather pleased to know that Maison 21G has release a more portable packaging of (5ml * 5ml).

Like its name, it is only the size of a crayon and slips quite nicely into even the smallest clutch bag. For someone who can't really make up her mind, this crayon is perfect because you get 3 scents. You can pick 2 of your favourites and mix it up for a 3rd scent. Personally, I like the surprise element the 3rd scent gives.

To choose a scent that suits your personality, you can first do a test. Based on my test, I am "The Free Spirit". Most of the time, I don't really trust such things. But when I took a whiff of my mother's recommended scents. Oh gosh, I could barely take it! LOL!

Among the 8, I chose my favourite 2. They well split under "Chill and Relax", "Seduction", "Special Occassion" and "Work & Social". I would say I like 6 of the scents. Eventually, I chose Muguet Muse and Raspberry Redemption simply because I haven't quite smell any fragrance like this elsewhere.

The dual crayon cost around $40 which I find it quite reasonable. It makes a very nice gift for friends/ colleagues too because of its lux looking packaging. Yes, I am still a sucker for pretty packaging!

Say ooh to BabySpa Massages

We went back again to BabySpa! This time round, baby wasn't as cheery so the camerawoman mama didn't manage to catch as many good shots. I realise some of you readers are curious about their other services as well so I thought we will share a little bit more about the massages.

So basically, all the water training package comes with a relaxing massage after. You can go for the massage service on its own too, which is priced at $26 per visit. Even during the second visit when baby was fussing a lot, he did calm down during the massage. This boy really enjoys his massages!

The massage helps to relax the baby and reduce anxiety in them. Usually after the massage, my boy would fall asleep on his way home (massages are said to promote regular sleep pattern but by then, he slept at a specific time already so I couldn't really verify this.) The massage also helps to improve blood circulation and in turn their immune system. For colic babies, these help to relieve the wind in them.

For parents who think that you will only capture cute moments in the water training session, you are utterly wrong. Don't stop those shutters because when your child is enjoying his massage, he will be giving some of the most adorable expressions. Also, you can learn a few tips from the ladies at BabySpa so that you can try it out on the baby yourself.

A typical massage would consists of some stretches, tummy rubs, face massages (optional) and back prods. My kid particulalry enjoyed his face massages, giving his "oohhh" face every single time, hehe. My boy used to have colic and I wished I had tried out massages earlier. We let him grow out of it and that took 2 difficult months, sigh.

Yes, we do have a promo code for BabySpa. Quote CHAA10 and you can get 10% off their products from their online store. Unfortunately, this doesn't apply to the services but this is quite a steal for their bath toys, swim products and even toys!

Sweet treats ft. Lamby & Bunny

Yum yum, letting you guys on a sweet treat heaven. I tried out their brownies and cookies (cookies review will come next!) and I was hooked. Be careful cos once you start you can't stop! This probably explains why I grew chubbier. It is always great to find delicious home bakeries because you know where to go to when you need to do some orders for a friend's birthday or xmas presents.

No lard, no fats, no preservatives, your muslim friends can enjoy them too! Their sweet treats are also perfect for the dessert table (although it will take a while before I can throw a party for baby given the Covid siutation). #sad

The brownies are quite recently priced at 8 pcs for $25. You mix up to a maximum of 2 flavours. Get 2 boxes and you get to enjoy free delivery. There are a total of 5 flavours available, and here's my rankings:
  • Maldon Sea Salt: This is my favourite. I love that it is both sweet and savoury, an awesome and unique combination!
  • Fudgey Nutella: Very sinful! A must have if you want a thick chocolate sort of flavour.
  • Orginal Dark Choco: A less sinful version but as good as the fudgey nutella.
  • Sweet Biscoff: If you like the sweet biscoff like me, you would enjoy the flakey texture on top.
  • Choco Banana: This is the only one that I might give a pass, not really my thing
By right, if you refridgerate the brownies, you should heat it up before eating. I admit I was kinda of lazy, I didn't but it still taste great. Perhaps I should have ate that with a nice scoop of vanilla ice-cream. Decadent!

You light up my life!

Lights are something so fundamental in the house. We did quite spend a while on it because we had to figure out the type of style we were going for. Our first stop was Like Lights and speaking to Jonas was truly enlightening (no pun intended). We learnt so much about lightings and shadows. I like that he was honest and doesn't hard-sell/ over-sell.

I am an overly-excessive person (I admit), and Jonas managed to knock some sense into me, otherwise my scandinavian house would look absolutely cluttered with me dumping statement lights at every opportunity. We have learnt that for flats, the usual place to put a statement piece is the dining area and entrance. For bigger homes, the grander lights was always placed at areas where the guests visit. Don't be surprised, but this includes the guest toilet. Hahah!

Light shops ain't the most convenient for me. However, my advise for homeowners is still to make the trip down. Just looking through photos isn't going to help. You would also need to allocate a few hours at the shop when choosing for statement pieces. Like Lights is only the size of a slightly bigger bedroom but every space had hanging lights and there was a lot to see.

One thing I really like about the lights there was that the base for most of the design was pretty much the same. In future, if I want to shake things up a little, I can buy a new cover and the lights in my house would have a new look! It also helped that Jonas was very helpful in mixing and matching the colours so that the piece we choose would best suit our house theme. For all his time and service, he charged very reasonably for our choice at about $200+.

The Hubs had a love at first sight with one of the pieces. It is a very simple design but it made quite a statement with our guests. In fact, many people asked where it was from. We didn't choose to go for smartbulbs because my Hubs is not into a smart home (I am into it though). Jonas suggested trying out 3-tones light bulbs instead, which I have to admit this is perfect for couples who are on 2 opposite ends of the spectrum.

So basically, you can use your current switch (no need for a dimmer) and obtain 3 different light settings. One setting is really dim for ambience, the other 2 is good enough for reading and working from home. The only con is that you can't pick the setting, you would have to turn it on and off if you wanna skip from tone 1 to tone 3, just can't skip tone 2. From what I have heard, the bulbs spoil faster as compared to the one-tone bulb. It has been about 4 months and so far the lights are still working well!

For the rest of the house, we used basic lights. Like Lights don't do basic lights. We went to Three Cubes for the rest of our lights because of the good reviews we recieved from 2 different sets of friends. Similarly, I find these guys know their stuff and offer very good advise. Our ID asked us to get really high watts lights but these guys told us no need and we followed their advise and saved quite a bit.

The chaps were also very flexible and allowed me to make changes to my orders. We got the track lightings and normal LED lights from them. I would say they don't have that much designs in terms of variety but basic being basics you don't need much choices. You may use our referral link for 8% off. You're welcome! (Note: We don't get anything out of this, just trying to be a kind fellow homeowner!)
