No Horse Run - Special Reviewer

Some of you may know already, I have a very special reviewer when it comes to ice cream/ gelato. This chap loves ice cream/gelato so much, he knows by now what is good and what isn't LOL. So sending him to review them was a no-brainer. 

He went to the newly opened No Horse Run - 3rd Outlet at Westgate because there was an opening special. You can get Free mushroom soup and Iced Lemon Tea for every main ordered. Also, the gelato was going on one-for-one. For the westies, it is something to rejoice about because No Horse Run's food is really value for money - quality food at hawker pricing. Check out the generous portion! There is no kid's meal but the serving was good enough for an adult and child to share. 

The kid had Fried Chicken with Waffle ($12.90) and trialed the Dark Chocolate, Cookies and Cream as well as the more unique Milo Marshmallow. His favourite being the dark chocolate, pretty predictable. The waffles are exceptionally good with the gelato! Apart from the more unique Milo Marshmallow, there is also the Soybean Youtiao and Yoghurt Speculoos which we will try the next time we are there.

 

For those who work from home, you can have your meal there because the pasta starts at $7.50 for weekday lunch and dinner! Really affordable. We are quite intrigued with the big breakfast set and because my kid takes very well to the mushroom soup and lemon tea, we will likely to make another trip down and test the the rest of the food. So, don't be too surprised if they appear on our Food Tour series, hehe!

Eagle Wings Cinematics Experience

We haven't exactly been to the movies much ever since we subscribed to Disney+ and Covid struck. Even when we did go to the cinemas, we always went for the premium experience for the cushy and spacious chairs. Call me spoilt, but I don't think we can go back to enjoying the normal cinematic experience. 

Since we celebrating the husband's belated birthday, he asked for something different so we decided to venture out to Eagle Wings Cinematics to experience their Gold Class and Premium Lounge. I did a bit of research to get the best bang for my bucks. 

1. Free Access to Lounge (for 2 hours): So if you get the Silver or Gold class tickets, you automatically get access to it for 2 hours before the movie starts. It does with the perks. We came 1.5 hours ahead because we wanted to have lunch and tried out their food. But from observation, other patrons came about 0.5h - 1h ahead. Guess you can call us kiasu. 


2. Free flow of drinks: Yes, this is still true. And we have verified that you can refill during the movie too though I doubt many would do that intentionally. The soft drinks dispenser had a lot of interesting flavours but I preferred the hot drink selection. In fact, I am now in love with the Super Tea Infusions Series. 


3. There is a massage chair (2 in fact): Ok, we admit we sort of came early cos we wanted to try it out. But boo, it sucks. The strength of the massage was too weak. Good thing we didn't buy this model for our home. 





4. There is 10% off the food: This was also why we wanted to try out the food (See menu here). No regrets cos it is really good. In fact, we were quite full, we had to give up finger food. We had:


• Lobster Bisque ($12): It was really good and came with lobster chunks. My photos don't look fancy because I customised to remove the cream. 


• Curry Katsu Don ($17): It is delicious but not mind-blowing. It is not my usual choice of food, but my choice is kinda limited because of my current dietary restrictions. 


• Truffled Black Beard Pasta ($18): This was the best dish ordered. Would recommend totally going there just for this again. It was very unique and I am pretty sure I never tasted anything similar elsewhere.





5. Ordering food is difficult: It is quite stupid. They made us order through an app and you had to fill in your credit card details etc. Am not sure how that would work in the cinema. Maybe you are supposed to order ahead so as not to distract yourself from the show. 


6. The theatre was not lighted before the movie: This is one of my biggest grouse. Cos I am vulnerable and clumsy now. I hate anything that make mobility even harder. 


7. There is no charging port in the cinema: Some of the reviews claimed that there is a charging port but I never found it, not that it will make or break the experience. LOL! I am just aunty. 

Ending the post with a yummy Curry Yong Tau Fu I found at a shopping centre across the street (forgot the name of it.)

Food Tour 17: West the Best

We didn't explore that much out of our zone because we have been so darn busy...oopsy. Haha, although many claims that good food only helm from the East, the West have also been pretty decent in satisfying my hunger pangs. So, today my post is dedicated to the food of the West.

1. Tan Yu

Tan Yu opened an outlet at Jurong area and plastered tons lots of advertisement on it. The thing is lately, I tend to loiter more but eat out less...haha. Every time, I see a Tan Yu advert, I am like "yum...but not today cos Dad cooked already..." So when the opportunity arose, I literally jumped at the chance to dine there. And this has quickly been promoted to one of my favourite Chinese food chains.

Tan Yu's main highlight is obviously their fish garnish with flavours (there are non-spicy options too). Even though the Hub is not much of a fish person, we managed to finish the entire fish ourselves! We also ordered the ricecakes ($7.90), absolutely devine. I could just eat it as snacks. Even their pre-meal goodies (i.e. sourplums and dried fruits) were delish. It is not exactly the cheapest meal, the fish itself already cost near $40, but it was definitely an enjoyable meal!

2. Nipong Naepong

We were trying to find a replacement closer to home. So far, all the good jampongs are in town area. Nipong Naepong was on Shopback Go with additional cashback, it was really a good time to give it a try. I think I can understand why some people like their taste like the Hubs, but I think I am more traditional when it comes to Korean food. 

It is interesting to have a bit of fusion mix, but it wears out fast for me. I don't see myself coming back because of any cravings. I am however very intrigued by their pizzas. The next time I am going there, I am definitely going to try their pizza. 

3. Lan Zhou Beef Noodles

More Chinese food! We went there on its opening day, so need to give them so slack. Overall, the soup version is way better than the dried. I got free re-fill of soup too! The noodles are especially springy and the soup is light and refreshing (a little different from the typical savoury soup).

Each bowl came with sides but the sides were honestly mediocre at best. After its opening day, the store is mostly quite packed (have been monitoring them for a while), I am guessing they have probably improved its taste. I will probably be going there for a second try soon when I am in the mood to move my fat ass. :P
