This event could possibly be one of the most exciting moment of my life. I was very fortunate to be able to be transported to a few million or issit billion years back (sorry this girl here can't count beyond a million)! If you were from my era (sounds so old), you would have grown up with the documentary - Walking with Dinosaurs.
It was pretty much a state of the art of its time with the amazing CG. So, you can imagine how thrilled I was to be going Walking with Dinosaur - The Live Experience. To be honest, I went to the opening night with sky-high expectations and ready to be immersed with the Kings of the Prehistoric times. (By the way, I am wearing my dinosaur earrings from Cheesebraid. Check out the post here!)
To be completely objective, the whole set didn't use very cutting-edge technology. But the amount of creativity put into the whole performance was rather mind-blowing. A lot of lighting and simple props were used in unexpected way to enhance the whole experience.
I was most bewildered by how they managed to mimic the movement of the dinosaurs. I won't want to share too much details here. Catch it yourself! For such a small stage (with so limited space), they could showcase up to 4 dinosaurs max. Wow!
Definitely a show for the family. Around us, we could hear young kids cheering and screaming out the names of each dinosaurs. Embarrassingly, my knowledge of dinosaurs is nowhere near the toddlers. But, I managed to learn a lot about my world and even pick home a few names. The Hub, who is a huge fan of the T-Rex was very bumped he could not be there. :'(
For you guys who wish to catch a glimpse of this, please note that the show is only until 8 September. They ain't here for very long so you really need to act fast. Would really recommend the seats in front because the dinosaurs would come up closed. Saw many excited kids in the crowds :) Ending this post with some video teasers to let you know what you are in for :P
I haven't been reviewing any products lately as one of my reviews have gone horribly wrong. I am still doing this post to share with you guys the importance of trying skin/cosmetics products before committing to a full bottle of it.
K-Bright products have been popping up quite frequently on my social media. I was actually thrilled when I was selected to be a reviewer at Try And Review. Unfortunately after a few days of religious use, my skin reacted rather adversely and my skin became inflamed. Huge, horrible-looking acne started popping from my skin. *Gross photos ahead*
The point of this post is not to highlight how bad K-Bright products are (because many testers actually really love their products), but how important it is to always get the tester pack to try it out first. I won't say that I have particularly sensitive skin. But twice, my skin went berserk on me. Better safe than sorry. If you a little bit of an adventurous beauty junkie, you can always get some free samples from review websites.
I have quickly went to Beauty Base for some remedial action. For damage like this, it would take some time to heal. So meanwhile, probably no close face shots. Sigh. Hope the Hubs still love me now I am no longer pretty. :'(
I am seriously quite addicted to earrings. Haha, it is not quite a frequent sight. The hubs would watch me try out these little joys and watch me mutter on the occasion I am going to wear them. Recently, I think my fashion sense is skewed to either classy or funky.
I know it sounds world apart >.< but that's me...never in the middle. Always sort of swinging from one extreme to another.
Shocking but true, every set of earrings from Issiyle is pacakged like this. To me, this is the perfect bridesmaid gift. Sigh, nope this is not a gift from the bride but I hope she gets the hint. :P Made from 925 Sterling Silver, this is my everyday piece. I like that it is elegant and easy to pair.
Initially I found the hoops a little difficult to put on. But I think it was just me being unfamiliar with hoops earrings. This is currently one of my favourites. And it is only $15. I know it doesn't look much. But this pair is awesome.
I actually got 2 pieces form this series - Drown in Druzy. I guess this speaks volume about how much I love this collection. I got the one in charcoal grey for my bridesmaid duty (even though I haven't got the dress yet). Have pretty much told the bride, my dress needa match this. :P The other piece was in pale rose for the wedding banquet.
Personally, I think the shiny pieces looks more attractive. But if you like something more subtle (like for the wedding), then the less sparkly pieces may actually work. You will be seeing these pieces again, but I probably won't be wearing them for other events before the wedding :D
I fell in love with this piece when I first saw it. And when I received it physically, I knew this was <3. I just immediately slip it on. Generally I am not into asymmetrical stuff cos it looks unbalance (like me and my life wahaha), but this one is actually a piece of art.
For this piece, you are really paying for the design. Unfortunately, this piece is out of stock. Hope Issiyle will bring it back, cos I am sure some of you will love it. Just a side-note, Issiyle provides free registered courier delivery for all purchases made before Dec 2019.
This wasn't one of my picks. The latest collection - Eden of Ceruleanwas very fancy. It was "too geometrical". When I first saw the safety pin earrings, I was like thinking "hmm...interesting" But I just couldn't imagine myself wearing them on my ears. But there are many times I am wrong...and this is one of those time. This earrings is really beautiful. I just need an occasion to flaunt it.
Readers of Forfunk, consider today another one of your lucky day. Issiyle will be providing a 15% discount worldwide if you quote "ForFunk". There is no minimum purchase required, but this is only valid for a single use and cannot be used for discounted items. If you have looking for gifts for your girlfriends, this is quite a good time to make the move...Hope you enjoy this post. Will be squeezing out more time to churn out more content :P
Are you guys ready? It has been awhile since I went for the SGCC and this year seems rather interesting. Apart from the usual cosplay, collectibles and comics, there will also be a gaming arena...wow wow wow. I am not much of a gamer. But I am sure there will be pretty good deals for the Hubs. :P
This year the price seems a little higher than before (above $20). I am guessing that there must be quite a bit of surprise this year given the price point. In case you don't know, the last few times I went, there are always last minute vendors and events that throw out great deals/ freebies.
Some of the artists that will be there include Tik Ka from East. Excited. I actually follow him on Instagram for a while and finally I might get a chance to meet him and maybe pick a piece of his artwork home. Hopefully, there will be some good discounts that day. *Bright eyes*
Will definitely be there this time round. :) Now it is time to save some money till the big day. :D
This was a particularly hard review to do because periods don't come every day and when it does come, it sometimes slipped my mind. Cos when the blood flows, there is so much more things going through my mind. Hahaha.
Being more eco-friendly now, I have long wanted to try out washable pads. Some of my friends told me it was too disgusting and it was much easier to use the disposables. And also was it even hygienic? Thank God, Hannahpads answered my curiosity and I finally got a chance to try them.
Generally, reusable pads are made of cotton. They are organic, toxin-free and very friendly to the environment. Unlike the synthetic pads, I did not develop rashes when using these pads. They were surprisingly absorbent and I did not have to experience moistness down under. I was initially afraid of potential overflows and leakages. But fortunately my tight undies prevented any red boo-boos.
Hannahpads have 6 sizes - for your different flow needs. And they have a good variety in terms of design too. Each pad would last for about 2-3 years and you would probably need a few for a cycle. In terms of price, I don't think there might be any overall savings financially, given that a pad can cost between $15 to $30. If you are planning to make the switch, the only standing reason I can think of is for the environment.
To be honest, washing was a nightmare. I have never seen that much blood and my toilet looked as though I murdered someone. Every time you go for a toilet break, the dried blood on the pads also truly scare me. Part of me wondered, will the pad every be clean again? But with water and soap, you can barely see any bloody remnants after the wash.
Personally, I prefer using the period undies over rewashable pads given that I feel that both are pretty much the same concept. Period undies seems a little more convenient without the need to put on the pad at all and you won't that pad line on tight-fitting clothes. Also, period undies have black designs that cover up the dry blood. If you are curious about period undies, you can read my review here.
Much delayed post, but I think this might be cos I saved the best for last. One of my favourite cities in NZ is Oamaru. Sadly, I didn't even stay for a day even though it was definitely worth a day stay at least. It was a town with one of the most character. I love it so much.
I wish there were more travellers who actually wrote posts about it. If I had read more about this town, I would have more aptly allocated more time for this place. One of the reason I stopped by was for the Steampunk HQ. I grew very interested in steampunk ever since I saw a house renovation on this theme on TV. Haha.
Personally, I love how interactive the exhibitions are. I could run around and touch most of the exhibits. Just a word for the faint-hearted, the place is a little on the dark side and sometimes may be scary. I think I freaked out a little. But still, I had a really good time. No regrets in driving all the way for it.
I am no Steampunk expert. But the vibes of Steampunk takes a bit of the Victorian Style, putting quite a bit of industrial elements to it. So, generally, you will quite a number of gadgets parts, metal tubes and goggles. :D I did my best to dress in my steampunk look...but Hubs felt I was more of a punk than a steampunk Lol.
While we were in the area, we also explored its harbour which has quite a bit of steampunk elements. The shops at Oamaru were the most fascinating for me. Although I did not buy anything (cos I need time when I shop T_T), it was checking out what the shops had to offer.
You can also observe the penguins at Oamaru. I was really upset we had to continue with our drive. So we missed catching the penguins cos there will only come back to shore in the evening. I only managed to catch some seals tanning itself. But I guess this means I will have to come back again in the future. I had really enjoyed what NZ had to offer. Would really recommend all of you to go down under :D
Finally, I made my way to Jewel and really enjoyed myself at the mall. It was so, so fun! <3 It is definitely one of my Top 3 Malls to visit and even though it is so out of the way for me, I might be popping by again at least once a year or so for the food :D
Decided to be an angel and compile a to-do list for those of you who have not been there so that you would know what to focus on. :D
1. Burger & Lobster
I love this place so much! Come slightly earlier before meal time to avoid the crazy queues. For what we ate, we spent nearly $70 per pax. Real pricey, but the food is really, really good. I had so much joy munching on it. When the hubs went off to the gents, I just continued eating. Usually I would wait for him, but not this time. Haha.
I guess if you are here, you are probably planning to spend. So go ahead get the lobsters cos they are really quite the highlight. They charge 5 frigging bucks for plain water. So you know what, go grab yourself a coke or something. The drinks ain't my thing and the sweet potato fries get a little surfeiting after a while (so don't upgrade, stick to plain ole fries!)
2. Pink Fish
If you are on a tighter budget, go for Pink Fish instead. The salmon is fresh and delicious. Unless you are Singaporean, please don't waste your time queuing for A&W (fyi, Singaporeans are only queueing because they miss the A&W float) or Shake Shack (the queue is still ridiculously long even though I heard only their beef burger is good).
Pink Fish is rather under-rated given that it serves good food and is affordable. But...don't upgrade to a set meal cos the potato salad doesn't really suit the typical Singaporean's taste palette. Just stick to the good ole burger. Thumbs up and nope, I am not bias cos I have stayed in Norway for 5 months.
3. Desserts
Jewel has an amazing variety of desserts, that is well suited to my sweet tooth. Personal favourites I have tried include the Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory, Birds of Paradise (the cones are amazing by the way! There is a also quite a number of bubble tea brands at Jewel. But I didn't really had it cos there was quite a good selection of other beverages.
4. Jewel Light Show
This is free. So come in the afternoon so that you will have enough energy to sustain till 7.30pm to watch the show. It reminds me a little of Garden by the Bay. It is entirely mind-blowing, but since you are already here, no harm watching it right? :D Didn't post my video up cos there were too many bobbing heads in mine...sigh.
5. Canopy Walk
This is really my sort of adventure and I can totally imagine hubs and I pretending to be Tarzan and Jane. But I didn't try it out cos (i) it is kinda of expensive and (ii) I was in a skirt that day... So remember to dress appropriately if you intend to do this. Actually, I would have paid for it if we had a kid and the child insisted and going in. But you know what, there is always next time.
And next time, there will be less people on the ropes and we might actually have a kid...and the price may also drop. Hehe.
6. Window Shopping
I am not much of a shopper, but Jewel consists most of my favorite window shopping stores, which include Tokyo Hands, Muji, Klosh and Naiise. If you enjoy checking out novelty items, Jewel won't disappoint you. Special shout-out to NTUC Finest! Unlike the other stores around Singapore, the one at Jewel is packed with our local delights.
Like an aunty, I actually bought quite a bit of local produce/ favourites. You may consider the Himalayan salt, Prima Taste, Hooked Coffee etc. And they have other flavoured lays chips that are not available in the other stores. I would have bought home more stuff if it weren't that heavy!
7. Starbucks Draft Beverages
It is more of a novelty thing but do try out the draft beverages. It is basically coffee and tea running from a "beer tap". I find the latte way too sweet for my liking. But I like the vibe of the store and had a good time chilling and resting my tired legs...so here it is in my list of to-do! #Fan
8. Pokemon Centre
I went there with the intention to spend a bomb. But honestly, the pokemon centre was really small and the merchandise was rather limited. The small plushies were not of very good quality. And I wanted to bring home other things apart from plushies. I wished they had sold more merchandise such as tees, stationary, lanyards etc.
I would actually love to bring home things I could actually use...or even eat. Hopefully, it grows bigger by my next visit. You can pop by if you are free. Otherwise, no need to be to sad if you miss it, which is why I rank this hype last on my list. If you are going to Jewel, you should set aside at least half a day to walk around and eat. If you intend to do some activities, please put aside a day. This is definitely one of the more interesting malls we have in Singapore!
Sorry, for the lack of yummy food posts, I think I was just too busy with other things in life. Not to leave a wrong impression, I don't usually spurge that much, this is just an accumulation of cafe-like food that I am having in life...hehe. Some are unfortunately not much of a hit....so bleh
Like all cafes in Singapore, the price ain't exactly friendly. But at least the food was good. Remember to make reservations cos there is usually a queue. You probably be seeing me much here (because I really don't believe in spending that much to enjoy food) unless my friends jio me to chill.
From top left to bottom right,
Boneless Pork Chop (S$30): This is the top favourite at the The Lokal and I think I know why. The pork chop is really good, but the thing is even the pork chop at cai fan store bring me a lot of joy...
Pork Knuckle Croquette: Sorry I think this is no longer on its menu, but I can assure you this sure is yummy, but the price is of course sky-high :P
Slipper Lobster Linguine (S$26): This is truly not my thing. Not really worth the hole in the pocket.
Chai Latte (S$6.50): Don't think you really can go wrong with this...
Had this with my friends the other day. We wanted to go to another Korean restaurant, but the queue was way too long. So we settled for this instead. If you are looking for some delicious fried chicken, I think Twins serve quite decent chicken. Their mains on the other hand, is passable but not ravingly good.
It is my second time here, but I don't particularly have much cravings for their food. Oops...hehe...would only recommend this if you are hungry and in a hurry. Price-point, it is average :D
Went there for a colleague's farewell at this isolated gem and wow can't help but think this place serve pretty decent fusion food. The price is kinda of steep but the ambience is good. Will probably go there for dinner next time, cos lunch-time is kinda of rush, can't really enjoy life properly.
From left to right, top to bottom
Laksa Pesto Linguine ($17.80)- For me, this is fusion done well. One of my favourites, I will definitely come here again for this! Yums!
Sliced Fish Beehoon ($17++) - It is a good fish soup. But the price, waseh, a little bit of a heartache.
Unami Fries (($9++) - We picked this cos it had the most garnish among the other sharing food. Would definitely recommend this, pretty addictive. I think I finished a good half of it. Oops.
Chendol Ice-cream ($5) - It was a seasonal special. It was quite good but honestly I didn't taste the ice-cream. Worth a try. :)
Krapow Bee Tai Mak ($13.80) - It is one of the recommendations, but somehow I don't find it very very special.
