Cooling Weighted Blanket from Serenity Living

And so, I had my first taste of luxury in bed. Weighted blanket is quite the rage now so I sort of decided to jump on the bandwagon and test it out for myself. Mummies as you know don't have the best rest and if anything can make me sleep better, count me in!

We got the Cooling Weighted Blanket from Serenity Living in Twilight Blue (S$288) as it was the only available colour then. But it suited our house's blue theme fine. They now have a dainty pink and dusty grey shade which I am very in love with. Deciding on the colours would have created quite a bit of problem if there were these colour choices HAHA!

Quite honestly, I expected these blankets to be very heavy. I won't say that they are light but the weight is very well-distributed. You can flip and toss around and the blanket doesn't even make a sound. I have to say the bamboo duvet cover is my favourite. It is silk-like and cooling, which is great for Singapore's humid weather. But a down side is that you need to iron it after a wash or else it would look crumply like mine!

Washing is quite a breeze. You just have to untie the sides (it is is kept in place by tying them to each side) and throw it into the washing machine. The recommended wash frequency is once a month. Overall, I did sleep soundly maybe because the weighted blanket felt like a nice, soft hug

They say mummies save the best for their child and there might be some truth in the statement because my child is enjoying it now as an extended matress. Weighted blanket make pretty good mattress too (though not its intended use) because they are quite substaintial in thickness and heavy enough not to be lifted by my young baby

Does he also sleep better? I don't know but sometimes we find him curled in the corner of the weighted blanket, sleeping calmly. But I do for sure. Because sometimes I have to sleep beside him to comfort him and this weighted blanket is a god-send. Without it, my back would probably hurt and dang I am no spring chicken.

I would think the weighted blanket is not just a fad. Give it a try if you are looking for a better night's sleep!
*** For our readers only, quote "ChaaYen20" for S$20 off.

Tips on Essential Oils

I always have difficultly going to bed "on time" so if you are like me, you might like this recommendation I have. I think most people already know about this tip, but still going to share it for those who don't. The secret is essential oils.

My logic is that you get familiar to a scent. And so when you sniff it in the surrounding, it induce you to sleep. I even have scents to keep me alert as well. Haha. I have tried many different brands of essential oils and I realise that there is a reason why some are more expensive than the other.

I ever tried the S$2 type from Diaso, but it just cheap and a little bit pungent. Never went back after. I also tried the Body Shop. It was really nice but they have limited selection, so I am quite pleased to share with you Rosmosa.

For sleep, I think I am quite an expert in it. I usually suggest Lavender. You can dilute it in a spray or pour 2-4 drops in your humidifier. It acts as a good room freshener as well. I only started using Lemongrass recently cos of its insect repellant nature. Surprising it went pretty well with Lavender.

Rosmosa also sells other form of essential oils. But I am only familiar with 2 others (cos I am using them) - Tea Tree for treating pimples and Argan Oil for smoother hair. I do hear some essential oils can be consumed but I have done that and I don't think Rosmosa's are meant for consumption.

I do occassionally use it for massage. (More like forcing the BF to massage me LOL!) Doubt they have any healing power per say, but it helps me to relax while the masseur (BF will be sad to know of his new profession hahaha)release the tension. By the way, Rosmosa also have a pretty good selection of humidifiers and at very reasonable price. Do check them out if you need one. :) (I prefer electronic ones by the way if you are interested.)

A whimsical good time with thepuffyfluffy

Usually for overseas collaborations, I rarely get tot meet up with the people I work with for obvious geographical distances. So it was really cool when I got to meet Pink, one of the owners from thepuffyfluffy.

Instead of receiving my products via air, I got them from her personally. And I even got a chance to introduce to her some of the best food and attractions we have in Singapore! Sometimes I wonder why am I not SG Ambassador?!?

You may have already seen the sneak peak on my Instastory. Here's the whole full blown whimsical delight! If you are like me, a fan of anything mystical and reeks fantasy, you really need to hop over to thepuffyfluffy to have a look at their produce.

Mermaids, unicorns, you have them all in pastel rainbow colour and a variety of merchandise. I am only wearing the sleep mask and the PJs. But there are tote bags, cushions, cover-ups, accessories and even blankets!! (And, psst they might be selling all of these in Singapore soon. Will update you then <3)

Here's me decked in my happy colours. I guess I haven't been looking so young for a really long time considering I don't have much proper rest. I look like a cheerful little girl. Now I think I really understand why PJs should always be silly and gay, cos it attracts pretty dreams!

Usually I am always decked in duller PJs but I guess it is time for a change. I like the fact the PJs are loose and airy for our warm weather. One interesting fact about the eye mask was they are tied on, and thus fits comfortably on top of your eyes. It even have soft furry fabric on the inner side to keep your eyes warm and snug.

Because the PJs shorts reminded me of surfer's shots and I thought maybe we can wear them out if we match them differently. So I slipped on a black tight clubbing top and hey, I think with this look, you can walk at least to your nearest NTUC to grab supper liao! :D

I hope you guys enjoyed the review. Meanwhile, you can hop over to thepuffyfluffy to make a list of your wants so that you can snag them all up when they arrive on our shores or when you go to Bangkok for a visit. By the way, do you know thepuffyfluffy occassionally hold interesting workshops for you to make the merchandise yourself :D You can also try that out when you are in Bangkok the next time round.

I think I may be dropping by Bangkok next year, with a new list of interesting activities to try out. (Psst, out last itinerary (Read them here and here!) was featured on 世界正美丽 Wonderful World Series 13!  So, stay tune for more interesting updates!

Dreamcatchers just for you

Sweet Dreams, I hope all of you are sleeping well. If you aren't, here's a old wives' remedy for all of you :D Wrapped up neatly and protectively, I am sure many of you are wondering what's this.

Is it edible? Nope.
Is it pretty? Yes, it is very.
Does it work for all? Well, you can pick and select until you get what you like... Hehe. Or you could always pick a pre-made one.

Presenting a dreamcatcher from Sahkyo & Co :D It is so pretty that even my brother and my boyfriend paused to have a second look. (Yea, and we thought guys are always not interested in such things! Guess they must have yet to seen something that has caught their eyes.)

Because I always think I am kinda of one-of-a-kind, I didn't pick anything off the shelf and got it customised instead. Customisation is pretty fuss-free, you just have to answer a few questions:-

1. Feather Colours:
White, Blue, Light Blue, Purple, Light Pink, Orange, Light Orange, Grey
2. Bead Colours (Almost all colours are available)
3. Name to customised on the catcher (if any)
What is the name that you would want on the catcher?
4. Type and Colours of Weaving (aka netting)
5. Misc:
Any other details you would want to have? Any other reference photos that you have?

I am sure some of you are wondering "woa...that's quite a handful of meticulous questions." As each of the dreamcatchers are painstakingly handmade, the details that you have answered will be slowly brought to life. Check out some of the behind the scene photos Sahkyo & Co has kindly shared.

If you are not very much of a creative person and thinking out a brand new design is too painful, you can click on the links and check out the past work. (Psst...what I did was compile the photos of the different parts of the dreamcatchers designs I liked.) And let me tell you a secret, Sahkyo & Co has one of the biggest selection of designs. You won't even dream or seen some of her past creations. #mindblown.

If you are looking for something smaller and closer to heart, here's some dreamcatchers keychain design. Should I give them away? But they are so cute <3 Comment below if you really want them :P

And oh yea Sahkyo & Co is on carousell as well. You can find more stuff and other designs there. But the instagram which I have linked focuses only on dreamcatchers which may make searches easier :D And let us know what you would like to read more at ForFunk, as you can see, we have been coming up with more varied content to suit your different taste :D And if you like Giveaways, join them so we know!

Try and Review: Activa

So it has been like forever since I got any sample from Try and Review. Dono why maybe cos I got no luck. But finally I got to review something cos there are much more testers available. And it is something that I don't mind trying too! Presenting Activa - herbal sleep inducers.

And I am pretty darn glad they are herbal cos after those slimming pill scares, I am quite worried of my liver succumbing to bad pills. :D And these pills work 70% of the time for me (except for the time I had tea before bedtime.)

So here's a breakdown of what's inside the pill :D
  • Matricaria Chamomilla - Natural sedative
  • Lime Tree - Faciliates sleep
  • Lemon Balm - Supports digestion
  • Verbena - Reduces nervousness
  • Hawthorn - Acts on stress and anxiety
  • Eschscholzia - Helps fall alseep

I actually took quite a lot of photos on my Instastory so too bad if you missed it. But you can always follow me here. Psst. There may be giveaways coming!

Feel the love with Human Touch

So lately, many people have been frantically raving about shopping in China. For the last 2 years, ForFunk has sort of localised, sharing a lot on local buys. But I thought, I should definitely go back "international" so as to diversify the readership. What better way it is to start, ASEAN.
I am hoping to work on more reviews with a country rather close to my heart - Thailand. Although, everyone is buying from China cos it is cheap. Let me tell you a secret, shopping from our friendly neighbours from ASEAN is equally affordable or even more so if we consider the shipping charges.
Einstein Sleep Office Pillow
This is a piece that caught my eye. It is the Einstein Sleeps Office Pillow in Beige. Human Touch also have it in black. There are a few different designs. Apart from captions like mine, there are cute drawings and congratulations office pillow. Good gifts for friends to celebrate importation moments :)
Another caption pillow is "You Should be Working!" But I thought this would be too harsh on myself to keep reminding myself to work. I already work a lot liao!!!
Use of Work Pillow
What you can use the work pillow for:-
  1. As a replacement for your Chou Chou (if you don't need it to be made of Bean Sprout Husk. Otherwise, read my other review here.)
  2. To rest your laptop when you are using it in bed. There is really no scientific proof to this but every time I use my computer, it heats up to the extent I am pretty sure it can cook something if it wants to. Cooked belly anyone? Nope.
  3. To rest your arm when you are using your laptop on your work table. The most original way of using.
Couple Pillowcase
For couples, you are definitely going to love this. Couple Pillow Cases!!! Super cute right? The main leads are the stick-humans boy and girl. Love should be simple right? No need for complex drawings. There are also other designs available. You can pick one to suit your love story.
Mine is The Law of Gravity. This will eventually be in the love nest. Made of 65% cotton, it will still be cooling in our warm climate. The good thing about purchasing from neighbouring countries is that they have similar climate. :)
The Law of Gravity
One nice thing about having cute pillow case is that you can have cute couple bed shot. There was this HK drama I watched where the lead was lying on the plainest design pillows - something like this. And it just looked so adorable.
And of course, even the couple pillow fights will look amazing. Bet fights don't last that long if it is so much fun and you are looking so good.
Bike Body Pillowcase
Body pillow are quite uncommon in Singapore. But if you happen to have one in your house, you might consider buying their cute body pillow cases. The designs are rather similar to those of the couple pillows. If you are single, don't feel too sad for yourself, there are pillow cases for singles as well!
If you don't have a body pillow, you can use it as a bed runner. Our bed is not a king size bed, so it is too small to have a runner. The use of a bed runner is mainly use as a bedsheet decor. There is no real purpose to it. Just in case any of you are curious.
Russian Doll Sketchbook
Apart from pillow cases, you can find other fashion accessories as well as stationary at Human Touch. Human Touch is 100% Made-in-Thai. The exchange rate is pretty favourable now, so it makes the goods a lot more affordable. Want to own a bit of Thailand, now's your chance.
And in terms of quality, it beats those China-made products you buy for a few cents hands down. Of course, at the end of the day, it really depends whether you are using the item for long term or you prefer quick rapid changes - Spoil and Toss. Do show Human Touch some Human Love by visiting their website. And tell me if you like ForFunk to showcase more products from Thailand. :)

Pink Label: Sleep well with Chou Chou

Bean Sprout Husk Pillow
It is almost as though I am bringing my readers and myself back on a travel machine. If you had read The Little Prince before, you would know all grown-ups were once children.. but only few of them remember it. (P.S Baby in picture not me. My old Chou Chou used to be very plain. Haha. Can't even find the old photos)
I hope you are one the few who still has some faint recollection that once upon a time, you used to have a very prized possession who comforted you to bed. We affectionately call it the "Chou Chou". For readers overseas, the "Chou Chou" is a bean sprout husk pillow.
Bean Sprout Husk Pillow
A lot of people know the Chou Chou as something for the kid as it helps them to sleep better. But for adults, it works the same too. Lately, I have been sleeping a lot better. So, what do I use my Chou Chou for?
  1. Eye mask - when catching the 40 winks in the living room in the afternoon, I put it over my eyes to block out the light
  2. Tummy Comforter - During my period, I put it over my tummy to ease the discomfort
  3. A good night rest - I hug it and sniff it. LOL. Soon it will stink and smell like me. While the whole world thinks it is worthy to be tossed in a garbage dump, it will cast a spell and entrall me with its familair fragrance. Hehe.
  4. For a friendly companion - I have this nasty habit of bringing a pillow everywhere in the house (except the toilet) :P
bean_sprout_husks_pillow_Starwars
For any of you interested in getting one for yourself or your kid, I got mine from Pink Label. They retail a lot of baby goods such as wet bags etc. But just because something is labelled as a baby good doesn't mean adults can't use them. :) All the products are hand-made and very well made.
Do check out their stock separately here. They go OOS so fast as each piece is limited. It took me quite a while before I settled on my Chou Chou design - Pooh Bear. They also have the premium version - Starwars, Tsum Tsum. I thought the Starwars was darn adorable. But since the Chou Chou is for me, I didn't want something so masculine. But if I had a little boy I would get one for him.
Chou Chou
"Only the children know what they are looking for" said the little prince."They waste their time over a rag doll, and it becomes very important to them; and if it's taken away from them, they cry."
"They are the lucky ones" said the pointsman.
Don't take away my Chou Chou. I may not cry. But I definitely will throw a royal fit.

Review: Olbas Oil

Lately, I have been periodically falling sick cos the air-con in the office is so darn bloody cold. I am almost shooting icicles off my fingers. I have seen like people having heater in the office, and I was almost in half a good mind to do the same, just that I find it awfully environmentally unfriendly. It is a wastage of double the energy.
Why do we have to even work in such a cold environment?!? I don't really feel myself being more alert or anything. Snacking has now become the next favourite past-time apart from shivering. The only visible benefit is that since the body is desperately converting all fats to produce heat to warm the body, I am not gaining as much fat I should!
Olbas Oil
Because I was wheezing a good deal, there were so many kind souls offering me solutions which I took with great skepticism because most usually didn't work anyway. This Olbas Oil, an Inhalant Decongestant worked wonders. It has a strong burning, minty scent if you pour too much out of its bottle. It can be easily found in most pharmaceutical store.

Also, I use it to go to bed at night cos it is a pretty good relaxant. Now I am having pretty good night rest, though I think am slightly over-reliant on the scent. I am starting to relate this scent to Zzzzz. Haha I tried to use this for a muscle relaxant as well but it is not strong enough for that. Strongly recommend this product, people!

Review: Catching Dreams with Xysta

Ever wondered how good dreams come about? According to ancient legends, dreamcatchers are spiritual tools of the Native Americans to filter the nice dreams from the the nightmares. Like a web, the nasty dreams would be tangled and trapped in the dreamcatchers and evaporate when the sun rise. Thus only, leaving only sweet , blessed dreams to those who slept underneath.
Xysta
Unfortunately, not all of us are born with the skills of weaving our own dreamcatchers to let ourselves have beautiful dreams. Presenting, Xysta, a new weaver in town, here to make your nights peaceful.
Apart from a huge array of designs, Xysta's dreamcatcher are very affordable. Depending on the size and intricacy of the designs, the price may vary. However, you will be happy to hear that customisation service is available. So even though you cannot make your own little dreamcatcher, you still can have the dreamcatcher you envision.
Dreamcatchers
You can find most of Xysta's past works on her Facebook or website. Most of her designs are rather unique and is not something you can find on the streets, star-shapped, double rings, heart-shaped are some of them. Her colour combinations would be more pastel, sweet, making the dreamcatchers quite dreamy looking.
Some of them have very strong contrasting colours, making them appear to be very gay and vibrant. So depending on your personality, you might want to pick something that reflects you.
My Dreamcatcher
My lovely purple dreamcatcher was inspired from the colourful work of hers. It arrived at my house nicely bubble-wrapped and in plastic, along with a nice note. I hung it on my bedside immediately and it is a real gorgeous bedside ornament.
I think I slept better too but this could all be the psychological effects. :) If you need a bedside piece, do not hesitate to contact Xysta

Review: Insomniac no More with Ennora

Do you stay up at night with a wandering mind?
Are you a fan of yoga and meditation?Ennora
Check out Ennora - The Binaural beats are of 2 different frequencies which will induce lower brain frequency and bring our mind into a state of relaxation. This can help reduce stress and anxiety, giving us a better night's sleep.
It is also said to improve memory. I am not sure if my memory is getting better. But one thing for sure, I am having better rest. I don't wake up as frequently in the night anymore. :)
Ennora album
Here is the playlist I sampled:
  1. Astral Projection - Reminds me of the rubbing of 2 Gongs against each other
  2. God Consciousness - Really like it. The pitter patter of rain drops slowly dripping down the roof
  3. Perfect Sleep - A relaxing melody. Something you will hear at a spa
  4. Recharge & Refresh - Sounds like God Consciousness with a more obvious frequency in the background
  5. Chakra Balance - Also like God Consciousness with a higher frquency in the background
  6. Deep Concentration - The flowing of a river stream complemented by birds singing a merry tune
  7. Crystal Clear Mind - A simple flute tune with birds chirping
  8. Lucid Dreams - Does resemble Electro-pop. But it is really soothing and not at all annoying
Insomnia
Don't over think, sometimes it is great to relax, chill, listen to some rhythmic beats and fall into a deep slumber.
Cos keeping up awake all night really and truly -- sux.

Sleep Wellness: Sleep Naked for beauty sleep

I love pillows! I love pillows~!~

If you don't know this by now, now you know...I love pillows =D
Drum roll, please, my new pillow from Sleep Naked, on top of my collection of 3 pillows. =D The name seriously is hell kinky. LOL! But I like the Chinese quote embroidered on it. Every man should have a dream! After all, dreams are visions for the future. =)
sleepnaked
Okay, frankly, I thought the pillow would be gigantic. Haha! Quite disappointed when it was pretty tiny because it is so soft and cushy. So dang comfortable to sleep on! #Big is always better#
But still, a tiny pillow is still a pillow.  It still can act like an arm rest, head rest, back rest or even a butt rest. LOL! Basically just prop it anywhere and rest your body against it! Comfy!
Pose it with a car, and dang you got a sleep swag! Hehe!
sleepnakedcar
I don't know about you, but I like to bring my pillow everywhere. Okay nearly everywhere, except the toilet and out of my house. Sometimes I do bring them overseas. I know it is a bad habit. =(
In my opinion, pillows are probably any man's best friend, after a dog. I used to have like more pillows (5 to be exact). But Mummy says that it is hard to maintain, if I want to have that many pillows, i have to wash the covers myself. =(
So, I decided to cut down. Yes, I am very lazy. SO WHAT! Hahaha!
Sleepnaked1
My dad say should photoshop and add drool to it so that it is funny. -.-
To all suitors out there, obviously this is a posed photo. I usually sleep more like the tiny photo in the first collage. I swear it is true. Please don't strike my name out of your list of eligible bacherlorettes!
On a side note, this is a HK brand. =D Lately, I seem to have a penchant for anything HK. Hehe!
Visit Sleep Naked! (and you can sleep naked) *to be taken literally* HAHA!
